SINGLE MOM, KNOCKED DOWN BY TAXI(DELIVERY VAN) BABY DRAGGED FOR 500M VAN DID NOT STOP

CYCLISTS STOPPED THE VAN

i am not saying this happened or that there actions were justified, but saying no matter what happened before

does not matter,,,,,is also reckless.

AS ALWAYS HUB MOB JUSTICE IS WORKING WITHOUT THE FULL STORY,,,

IF THIS WAS A EGO OUTBURST different story, if it was a hit and run and they tried to stop the driver,,,,excessive yes or should they rather let him get away,,,,,,,,,,,full story then i will judge

Surv0MTB gave a clear and concise eye witness account and the video is pretty clear. Your allusions to HUB mob justice are a little misplaced in this instance. Irrespective of what went before, including your example, the conduct of the cyclists is unacceptable. The comments by Hubbers deal with that issue.

Where on that whole mess can you get "trying to stop the driver"? And if these guys were being good civic minded citizens by stopping a criminal type from escaping (at nought kph and parked) why were they not on to the cops to report they had apprehended the guy?

DIPSLICK........ Your example is a good one. Probably not what happened, but it highlights how important the real story is. I had less success in trying to put that point across and was accused of "being one of them".

I hate violence and this behaviour is way out of line....

But, If it comes out that earlier in the day that van was seen harrasing a lone female cyclist, or had tried to run someone off the road (hyperthetically speaking)........ Then i'm guessing everyone will want the drivers head on a stake...

Seems pretty clear from the eye-witness that this was not the case.

"Earlier yesterday morning I was driving on Beach Road towards Cape Town, just past the Pavilion. There are two lanes and I was in the right hand lane. I found myself approaching a bunch of about twenty cyclists, probably practicing for the Argus Cycle Tour. They were in the left lane, but many were riding abreast so some were even encroaching into the right hand lane, past the center line. Aware of the new 1.5 meter rule, I slowed to give them space and was unwilling to overtake. Further ahead was a stationary vehicle that was double parked but it went unnoticed by the leader of the group who was looking back and communicating to the rest of the team. The group were moving swiftly and only at the last second when the leader again faced forwards, did he see the vehicle…. Just in the nick of time. He had to swerve to avoid the vehicle and this obviously upset him. He stopped his bicycle abruptly and flew into a violent rage. The entire peleton pulled up in support and some followed his lead. I fumbled with my phone for valuable seconds and eventually got the camera going, and filmed the violence unfolding before me. You can clearly see how they battered the vehicle, bent the windscreen wipers, pepper sprayed the driver, tried to steal his keys, assaulted him with a bicycle wheel and punched him and the passenger in the face repeatedly. There was a lot more going down than what you can see in the video.

I drove away as the vehicles further behind me grew impatient but a few hundred meters further I decided to do the right thing and return to assist the driver and his passenger. By the time I got there, the cyclists had left (I passed them) and the Van was nowhere to be seen. I stopped at my friend Dave D’Aguiar, and shared the video. Dave was equally disturbed by the video and took it to Sea Point Police Station himself about two hours later. He inquired at the charge office if anyone had laid a charge against cyclists for road rage and, as coincidence would have it, the victims were themselves in the police station doing exactly that! As it turns out, they were volunteer workers cleaning up the hydration bags and other litter after the finish of the 10KM Sunshine D, Nelson Mandela Commemorative Walk.

If you would like to be instrumental in bringing these hooligans to justice then please SHARE this post now. Like minded citizens may recognize some of the perpetrators and the clubs they ride for. If you recognize any of the cyclists in the video then either ‘name and shame’ or call the investigating officer directly, Warrant Officer Olivier on 021 430 3700."

The worst is if these guys are from out of town, just down for the race this coming weekend. In which case they have just made it bad for all Cape Town Cyclists. A city that just on the verge of adopting bicycles as a mode of transport fully...

As a fellow cyclist, I respect the cars, they bigger than me but every year, so many groups that come down to Cape Town a week or so in advance for the Argus tour and practice ride in full formations in prep for the race...using entire lanes...it does anger motorists especially I noticed in Camps Bay, Sea Point Area where roads can become congested easily.

Just makes me so sad seeing this behavior...Will it be safe for us to ride on the road now after motorists see this video?

Get someone to read the OP's thread to you, S L O W L Y .

The van was double parked. The leader of the group did not look where he was going as he was looking BEHIND him. He saw the vehicle at the last moment, and managed to avoid going into the back of it, and then what you see on the vid followed.

At least half the point here is that the video is all anybody (not just Hub members) is going to see. All the non cyclists are going to form opinion based on seeing a bunch of idiots bullying s driver in a parked vehicle.

No matter how you play that it looks bad.

lets not allow ignorance into the discussion ok. Hunting dogs have a strategy to suit an end game i.e. to feed themselves.

These chaps behaved like thugs. There are human behavioural models to describe their actions without having to resort to comparisons with animals.

Yes, your right.

In my defense the way some of them humans ran around reminded me of the African hunting dog method of attacking.

African Hunting Dogs, I apologise for comparing you to those humans.

If it comes out that the driver had harassed a lone female cyclist or had tried to run someone off the road THE ACTIONS OF THE CYCLISTS WOULD BE UNLAWFUL AND UNACCEPTABLE and open to legitimate criticism as has happened here.

No body goes that crazy over nothing.. watch towards the end of the video, it looks like a little guy got knocked off, he comes running around the vehicle hobbling, if the driver did bump some one off as a result of not concentrating then he got what was coming..

Taking matters into own hands???? Is this really the way to handle an incedent?

I think this is pathetic and bad for all of us!!

Like some said: Lets get both sides first. oceans2cr@p (sorry but this chop should be shot, not paid for his dribble), social media and others will ride this pony.

If the van driver was reckless / damaged a bike / injured another rider, let the cyclist in question lay a charge.

The driver should also lay a charge on the chop that went to him with fists and wheels.

What is supposed to be a relaxing morning out with friends almost never is. From the ignorant deeks parking in Greenpoint and Sea Point who open their car doors without checking whether any cyclist are coming along, forcing the cyclists into the middle of the left lane, to the chop who hoots at the poor guy that is sick of dodging opening car doors. Then they get through Camps Bay with cars and taxi's alike pulling out of parking bays without looking and people crossing the road everywhere but the foot crossing. They then have to deal with tour busses cutting the corners all the way to Noordhoek and then the same routine in reverse coming back.

Then on the other side you have guys riding 3 abreast, skipping lights, middle fingering other road users who get agitated by their behavior, throwing their gu packets all along the road and having a general disregard for other cyclists and motor vehicles.

This all leads to cyclist having a near-nervous breakdown by the time they hit Camps Bay on the return leg and the motor vehicle drivers getting into a frenzy after having to deal with another cyclist who thinks that the rules do not apply.

(Possibly) A small incident leads to a big reaction. Fortunately it does not look like any lives were lost, but strong action is required by law enforcement on any guilty party. We also require more visible policing of cyclists and motorists along this busy stretch of road to ensure compliance from both sides.

That one dick has got a League number attached to his seatpost. Pity the video is not clear enough to make it out, otherwise it would have been easy to identify him.

Saturday morning we did our last long training ride. Coming down Seapoint we made sure that we were cycling single file. As we approached the RED traffic light at the Swimming pool, a tool came past us from behind and continued to go over the traffic light without even touching his brakes. I shouted at him, "Hey the robot is red, you are suppose to stop". He almost broke his neck when he jerked around to look at me. The lady in the car next to me just looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and smiled. Lo and behold, this same tool continued to skip each and every red traffic light for as far as I could see him.

Same story we had on Saturday morning in Strand side. We " our riding group " were on our way to Rooiels riding along Beach road. We stop at a red traffic lite, and this guy and his friend on his OLD RED AND BLACK LOOK WITH 404 ZIPP FIRECREST WHEELS WITH POWERTAP HUB , past us from behind and drove over the red traffic lite. We shouted at them to stop, the guy on the Look just look back at us and shouted "F@#$ you" and went on riding.
