Lance Armstrong also raced at the top end of the sport and we all know how that went.

You had to go there? Ouch

Get the correct facts. Beukes and Heyns were 5 minutes ahead when this happened. The incident was witnessed by a group of riders including Oli. When they called him he swore at them. It was not 5 meters. That is what I heard. Believe what you will.

Post proof. What's an "Oli"?

Seems like Scott (beukes and heyns) launched this appeal.

I don't believe you.

I am sure the Brandon Stewart fine was related to his "doping" cloud that is Hanging over him... as for the shortcut.. Even 50 is OK in my book.. Let's wait and see

If Evans says Scott racing launched the appeal then he would know better than a .....person on the internet since he would have been informed who lodged the protest.

Can't see why a back marker would care as they would have nothing to gain and would'nt be up here anyway.

Only someone with something to gain would lodge a protest that gains them an advantage and that would be appear to the 2nd placed team

I wonder if sometimes the decision to make an 'appeal' may be decided on by the team management rather than by the individual athlete/s or maybe I'm just talking poofie?

I have been part of teams and have appealed to UCI refs before. It was a joint decision. I've also been involved when we as riders wouldn't let the team appeal. But in my experience, it's a joint decision.

1. Brandon should not be near there - it can just turn into a PR nightmare. 2. He should tell them to go to hell - R150k is ridicilous. What are they gonna do? Lock him up, ban him?

I find this strange as during the prologue I think it was Either team Bulls or Meerendal Songo Specialised that also cut a switchback. The move could have saved them 2 seconds and it was televised yet no protest.

Yip, was going to comment exactly that! It was Bulls (Platt) Sauser...

No wonder all the Pro's carry GoPro's (I found it ironic - they shave evry gram off the bike, yet they put a camera on...)...it is for that exact reason...proof of infringements...what has this race come to??

R150,000 for touching a water bottle is a little stupid don't you think.

Sort of like a R150,000 speeding fine for doing 140 in a 120 zone

punishment befitting the crime??

Hey, its the EPIC...they need to make some money??? Or will thsi go to CSA coffers perhaps?

Using technology smartly for 'fair play' in a real prestigious world - class sporting event

Works for me

Was the alleged shortcut within the boundaries of the route ? I am assuming that the route isn't continuously taped ?

Just trying to think to myself that if it was a 5m "shortcut" then its more cutting the corner than taking a shortcut. And if so, then isn't that line choice more than deliberate cheating?

Havent seen the footage so working on a lot of assumptions

Very interesting comment....when the track is not marked with tape...when is it legal to leave the route / course / jeeptrack? / dirtroad / whatever...It surely will be matter of just choosing another (lesser travelled) line? 5m over a distance of 100+km?? C'mon...
