Perhaps I'm being a little churlish, but it irks me somewhat that lately it seems we have quite a few people advertising on the hub who register solely for that purpose. Zero posts except for the item being advertised.

Would be nice if there was some sort of encouragement to engage with the community and not just use the platform as a free ads listing.

Were it my call I'd change the forum settings so you have to be a member for a week and/or have a number of posts before flogging your goods.

Thoughts?

Has been discussed many time including a minimum number of posts options, think was discussed somewhere around 100 posts.

At least they are selling to cyclist ... and you never know, that sole purpose for selling might be the bargain of the day !!

I don't know, will you go to Pick a Pay every day for a week before you may buy your groceries?

That's not really an analogous comparison. I take Shaper's point however. I don't mean it maliciously, it just feels like it would be nice to somehow "convert" them to being part of a good community instead of just using the site and never contributing.

Then you will get people who makes useless posts to get to the minimum number of posts!?

nonsense. Take this chap, ChUkKels, or whatever, has 3379 posts, of which 3378 are nonsense posts, still I would not buy the last piece of bread on earth from him. It's all about who you deal with, and how they conduct business, not the amount of posts, because, like me, most of their posts might be rubbish and not contribute towards credibility.

OK - so here is a flippen good example.

Links MTB

He has 1 post.

Recently bought a Giant XTC from him.

Took delivery of bike, cleanest used bike I've ever seen.

get home and realize the fork lockout does not work, and check with seller, and he explains this is news to him, very sorry but promises to have it fixed at his own cost, no matter what.

Fork sent to Omnico, fixed the lockout, sent back, seller arranged to pay for fix with LBS who sent fork in, no issues, no questions asked.

Now how did his 1 post only not work here?

I recommend him as a seller for having integrity, and not for his 99999 posts about rubbish.

This is a community, with people taking different roles. I come here to buy and sell AND listen to the debates and to get information. I don't feel the need to contribute unless I think I have something useful to add. Pretty sure there are many 'lurkers' like me. I'm not sure why this is a problem.

Not one of which is a classified

In any event, as I say...was not intended to be a malicious post, rather something to provoke debate. Some good points raised and I guess if even 1 in 20 stick around to hang out and chat and make some riding buddies then all good.

Have a good day all. Guess I was feeling grumpy this morning :)

P.S. That's 84 posts now!
