Hi All,

just putting this question out there, as I am clueless on the branded cycling gear.

What should or must one do to get branded cycling gear?

I see a lot of cyclists with branded clothing and was wondering if you get those in your LBS for sale or should those specific company sponsor you?

It always looks nicer to have those branded clothing than the "sport shops" clothing...

Any feedback will be appreciated....good or bad.

Think what he's asking is where does he get jerseys with "company ads" or "sponsors" branding other than only the first ascent logo on the sleave for example.

Well, most bike shops have their own clothing branded with a sponsor ex CycleLab with Toyota and CWC with, well CWC or whatever.

You can design your own.

You can join a club, like the lab or CWC etc...

You can also get items designed by corporate companies on clearance at velotex.co.za afaik.

That's a matter of opinion.

I for one don't go out of my way to advertise on behalf of others.

I prefer unbranded clothing unless it's a team/club kit.

I agree. Why must I pay to advertise some company, with no benefit to me.

Plain, simple unbranded clothing for me. Unless of course it is for a Club or Team I belong to.

some of the shops will sell branded kit, but at a discount. So in essence you're paying less because it has their logo on it

I totally get this. When I go jogging I like to wear a replica Usain Bolt one piece sprint suit.

As said above you can get branded clothing from the big stores. www.fitsportslab.co.za has a nice Europcar replica in green.

The one important thing to remember: Respect the jersey.

No world champs hoops, KOM, Points or Leaders Jersey from any of the 3 grand tours... unless you won them in the first place.

There is alot of Cape Epic kit being sold off by Craft in many places and, personally, I wouldn't wear that unless I had done the thing.

There is a thread featuring 'Kick ass Kit' here (subjective obviously!) but might give inspiration if you're looking to make up some jerseys for you and a few mates. There is alot of good kit out there... unfortunately not the elusive MTN Q jerseys as they seem to keeping them from the buying public in SA!

I might produce my own outta china, sell them here and give the profits to Qhubeka...

Nobody cares what you are wearing. I have surplus Sani2C gloves, surplus Transbaviaans arms warmers, Cows bib, heck, I would wear the Yellow Jersey if I got my hands on one. Just pitch up and enjoy the ride while other people stress about clothes.

Wear unbranded/non-marketing cycling kit.......it has an invicible social shield called THE NOOB. Less people to worry about bothering you. Rather spend the moola you save on kit on what really matters.......the bike and your training.

But then again that is just me.......NOOB maximus.

It doesnt matter. As long as it has the pockets and no extra holes in them its fine. If you want some cool cycling shirts, design them yourslef and get a printing company to make them for you. It more expensive that way.

If you want to ride for a good cause, ride for Cancer Clowns. check them out on bookface and Google....
