My story is a little happier.

Met the wife in a club and she gave me her number which I thought I had memorised ... turned out that I was out a few numbers, so spent a reasonable amount of change trying various combinations of what I thought was the right number till I finally got a hold of her .... I will never forget that tel. no. now.

It was money well spent as we are now together for 23 years.

dude she gave you the wrong number on purpose, then you stalked her so bad she HAD to go out with you. :) :)

I know a m8 who spent time in the UK  (back in the day when safa's could go there visa free for 6 months), who used to use a recording of the dtmf pulses on a Walkman to score the credits needed to phone his domineering gf back home who expected to hear from him every day.

Eish. my Mrs and I will be together for 5 years next year March. Yip, we started a bit later in life. She's only a year younger than me and she insisted that we have to be married before we start a family. I have heard from others that the first 4 to 5 years is the hardest, whether in a relationship or in a marriage. It hasn't always been a bed of roses, but I wouldn't change the way things are right now for anything in the world.

Today you would be called a stalker! Luckily you didn’t have IG in those days, you would likely have slid a terrible DM ????

7th year is meant to be the tough one

As far as children are concerned, you really only have to "look after them" for the first 25 to 30 years . . . .  Enjoy!

This is so funny. Did they ever get married?

Yes, he had no choice LOL. She eventually dragged him off to Oz, have not been heard of / from since.

Once went on a road trip with them to a concert in Zim back in the day.: Big mistake.

Human Rights Now Concert 1988?????

I too drove there, PE to Durbs to pick up mates, then on to Harare. Rhino Fest the night before and then National Sports Stadium: Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, Peter Gabriel, Sting and a few others.

Stadium was head high in dope smoke, lucky I was in the stands :w00t:

Oh yea ...  and we went the long way, up the side of  Botswana to Vic Falls, back down to Bulawayo, then up to Harare, in a clapped out Combi and with someone on ur case the whole frigging time (said mates gf), not pleasant.

Did you remember Thomas Mapfumo at that concert? he was the local musician of note, man of great talent and integrity.  I think others like the Bundu Boys were all dead from Aids by then.

The year before it was the Paul Simon Graceland concert which I had the pleasure of attending with some more amenable fellow travelers .. magic times!

Must say I traveled the length and breadth of Zim in the late 80's and 90's, it was really cool, besides the beauty of the country, the people on the whole were amazing.

Yeah, it was a fantastic concert and the 'kindness' of Bruce Springsteen to all the South Africans was fantastic  --- especially given that PW was still president.

My brother played at the Rhino Fest the night before, so was a few days of a lot of Zambezi lagers.

We drove from PE to Durbs, as I said, then through Bots and into Zim via Plumtree  to Bulawayo. Even on that route, which we thought would be quiet, there were loads of cars heading up. Bots was a bit of a nightmare in those days, AK wielding army dudes, roadblocks all over, and absolutely no humour.

6 of us in my old Merc 240D donkey. A great car, but way too heavy for the 240D motor.

Yep South Africans were not flavour of the week following various bombings of ANC suspected safe houses where women and kids got killed.

The BDF were still hostile in 91 when we started the Airbase and the Contracts Manager for Spie and myself were on the wrong end of a rifle up the nose after taking a wrong turn into Presidents Drive
