I have no idea.

It's just a bit silly some times - the WADA prohibited product list reads like a 3rd year chem textbook.

If someone like me (who studied chemistry) battles to suss chemical formulas how does the layman manage?

To be fair - I don't use many products that have 6 syllabled chem formulas in their title and stay away from anything that has the word "muscle" on it.

I pay attention to products but certainly don't sit with the container on my lap and search each and every product on the WADA list.

Perhaps sometime soon I'll be defending myself and the hubbers will be calling me a doper - the sad part is we're all 99% safe - with 1% bloody scary risk.

I fear that way too often.

That WADA list is so broad that soon black pepper will get you two years.

I have been on some heavy medication of late, luckily I won't be racing in the next week or two.

I remember buying some protein of evox, a free sample of 3DT was 'plakked' on the lid.

I dont remember the exact words that was written on the packet, but I remember telling my brother that you will test positive if you use that.

I didnt say that because I knew what ingredients it contained, I said it because I read on it that you shouldnt use it if you are competing professionally.

Not listed on the WADA list either....

From the WADA list under S6: Stimulants

A stimulant not expressly listed in this section is a Specified Substance.

b: Specified Stimulants (examples):

  • benzfetamine
  • etc.

Maybe my "find" function is broekn but I don't see it:

a: Non-Specified Stimulants:

Adrafinil; amfepramone; amfetamine; amfetaminil; amiphenazole; benfluorex; benzylpiperazine; bromantan; clobenzorex; cocaine; cropropamide; crotetamide; fencamine; fenetylline; fenfluramine; fenproporex; fonturacetam [4-phenylpiracetam (carphedon)]; furfenorex; mefenorex; mephentermine; mesocarb; metamfetamine(d-); p-methylamphetamine; modafinil; norfenfluramine; phendimetrazine; phenmetrazine; phentermine; prenylamine; prolintane.

b: Specified Stimulants (examples):

Benzfetamine; cathine**; cathinone and its analogues (e.g. mephedrone, methedrone, a- pyrrolidinovalerophenone); dimethylamphetamine; ephedrine***; epinephrine**** (adrenaline); etamivan; etilamfetamine; etilefrine; famprofazone; fenbutrazate; fencamfamin; heptaminol; hydroxyamfetamine (parahydroxyamphetamine); isometheptene; levmetamfetamine; meclofenoxate; methylenedioxymethamphetamine; methylephedrine***; methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine); methylphenidate; nikethamide; norfenefrine; octopamine; oxilofrine (methylsynephrine); pemoline; pentetrazol; phenpromethamine; propylhexedrine; pseudoephedrine*****; selegiline; sibutramine; strychnine; tenamfetamine (methylenedioxyamphetamine); trimetazidine; tuaminoheptane; and other substances with a similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s).

EDIT: It's not specifically mentioned, BUT AFAIK it is an S6 stimulant

Life of an elite athlete, not only do you need to train yourself to death but you also need a PHD in pharmaceuticals. Much like the Rhodes student who went to study journalism and got a back alley degree in pharmacology with 5 years internship in jail..........

No No, I found the free sample and it states the following:

"Pro athletes, not all ingredients in EVOX 3DT are WADA approved."

So there is no need for anyone who competes competitively who uses this product unknowingly that it can result in an adverse finding.

Edit: after 2 years I still have the sample and havent used it, maybe I will win local races if I do, but I'm not going to juggle with my health to win a stupid bike race.

Question then is, Are supplement companies fraudulently covering their backsides by not listing the correct ingredients?

Yes, an example of the minefield:

  • bitter orange
  • orange aurantium
  • citrus aurantium

  • synephrine

  • naranja agria

  • zhi shi

are all the same thing, and commonly listed for weight loss. Sounds innocent enough. It metabolises to octopamine, which is banned in competition by WADA[1].

Supplement companies view WADA as an obstacle. They want to sell "stuff". Either stuff that's part of a fad (eg. organic gluten-free water, or vitamins) or stuff that'll actually work. As soon as it actually works, WADA bans it. Therefore WADA is an obstacle.

Processed food does the same. Google for alternative names for monosodium glutamate.

[1] For octopamine there's a non-zero limit since it's also naturally found in food (and beer.)

Eish, powerade, peanut butter, coke and water. Hope they never ban this. Please leave my COFFEE off the list.

That's the part that fuddles my head.

It's all a bit of a minefield really.

I'm fairly sure the muscle bound dude at the Dischem would give me a blank stare of I asked him if methyltrisuperubermegaepofastjuice was an S6 Stimulant....

Kinda sad that farkers that dope have made my life more difficult! Bastard

So I mailed a well known manufacturer regarding their fat-burners which I am taking....how's this for a nice confidence booster...

".......Being an elite/pro athlete I would recommend not to use the fat burner - It is a stimulant and most doping tests test for stimulants. It is not worth the risk of him taking other supplements or doing something different on race day and then jeopardising his reputation and our crediblility. There are no banned substances, but my personal recommendation would be not to use on race day. There has recently been new legislation in the industry, and going forward, we will not be making Fat Burners, but we will be looking for an alternative. The Fat Burner takes 5 days to work through your system....."

At least in one area I know I'll be safe. With my metabolism I'll never need fat burning products, ever.

^_^

You are likely to get lynched here for making a statement like that. I will start - I HATE YOU!!! Rest of us have to graft like mad to lose weight and get the metabolism to work ^_^
