Also one to note, there are a lot of trail shoes with lower or even zero drop in them. Yes in the long run(pun intended) the lower drop can strengthen your feet and and and. But if you have even slightly strained calves or plantar going to a low drop shoe will cause issues.

Unreal run by Ruth Chepngetich at Chicago yesterday.  2:09:56!!
Smashed the ladies world record by 1min57.

would have placed 10th overall yesterday

Averaged 15:24 per 5km. First 5k was 15min

64:16 through halfway. Only 3 other ladies have run quicker in a 21k.

only 4 US men have run a 42k faster than 2:09:56 this year.

@shaper How was your Chicago Marathon? Congrats on the PB!

Thanks but not a PB, GPS was way off with the high rise buildings and many under passes/tunnels we went through, hard work as the legs were not feeling great from the start even though conditions were great when we started, until around 25km and the sun came out and the humidity seemed to ramp up.  The last 4km were a real struggle, but what a great race.  The crowds through downtown city was fantastic and loud!! Have never run a race where the crowd seemed 10 deep.  They say there are about 1.7 million who come out to support on the route and I can well believe it.  Great race and well worth the hype. Am looking forward to running Boston next year.

Yeah Unfortunately me 🤦‍♂️

Well done !

Those last 12km's were brutal into the wind.  I was dot-watching a few friends, dropping more than 30/km into that wind ....

Any Sanlam CTM finishers?

The wind and heat wasn't as brutal as last year, so I was at least prepared in that regard. And this time managed to run all 42.2km of the race without any walking still missing my goal with 2m45s thanks to a bathroom break and the ugly truth of my fitness in the last 12km - I was supposed to keep it constant until 30km (which I did) and empty the tank the last stretch... only to find I couldn't push harder than the average I already set out with. So my finishing time was no surprise if not an anticlimax. Still 50min better than last year and with minimum stiffness and soreness today. Nutrition, gear and mindset was on parr but had a wakeup call on my fitness

Well my focus has mainly been trail orientated since taking a 2 week break after Comrades in June. I knew I couldnt repeat last years performance but nothing was going to stop me from trying. I like the go till you blow approach, well guess what it doesn't always pay off. In hindsight I should've started more conservatively and not get sucked into the pace the A batch guys start off with. After 10kms I had 39mins on my watch and I already knew I was in big trouble. PR's right up until the half marathon mark. Struggled with a stitch and often had to tap off the pace to recover, I was so smashed that when the Sub 3 bus caught me in Salt River, I could only hang on until The Company Gardens and had to let them go. Still thought I could sneak in under 3 hours but that headwind in the last kilometer was the final nail in the coffin. 3:01:43 eventually.

P.S. Did anyone else notice the concrete bit pass the Sea Point Pool is actually uphill.

Here in UK half marathons are between 35 and 50 no shirt included.

marathons start from about 60 up wards.

ultras from about 80. I have entered a 100 km ultra next year which cost 195. So around 4500 zar. No shirt either. 😂
