You can also set up this app https://github.com/cagnulein/qdomyos-zwift as a bridge which will control the incline. This tops off quite a year of running for you - to finish UTCT alone is an achievement - but put into perspective the rest of the top quality runs you out out this year it is quite remarkable. You have my full admiration. I was just behind you at the start, I managed my first miler too in 42hrs, I finally got rid of my 'imposter syndrome' and think I can call myself a trail runner and not just 'a cyclist with a running problem' . Thanks and well done to you too. I must say I wasted too much time at the aid stations and probably should’ve taken one or two 15min power naps throughout instead of the 2:30 hours I took at Alphen. Also train with the full load you would race with as that literally killed my knees, feet & back. ScottCM 1

It is indeed special and having my wife at the finish line after she was seconding me all weekend was very emotional. also thanks to @Jewbacca who shared some good tips with this novice. I have an xterra 3500 that I might be tempted to part with. I used it for about 6 months before we moved to the farm. On the farm we are off grid and a 3hp motor kills our solar system so if I need to run at night I just go out and run around the farm. It has literally been used a few times since 2021 if that. It lives in the corner of my gym. It does work with zwift, I have done a few zwift runs and a run on another platform. It is not controlled by zwift so the gradient you have to set yourself and obviously the speed. I bought it right out of lockdown scared we might have another lockdown. I blew up a cheap treadmill in lockdown so it is a solid 3hp motor. Not sure what the value would be though hence I asked your budget

Faffing gets you nowhere. Eating and Napping are essential. Napping in an aid station is a gamble - often too much noise and energy/ vibe. On Sunday I walked 250m up the path from Alphen aid station, sat under a tree, pulled my cap down and slept solidly for 30min. Just what I needed. Yes my coach said every long run - full pack. My main oversight was no poles - I believe now that they make a big difference - I hardly saw a runner without them. ScottCM and milky4130 2

I started trail running without them but the advice was to get them for Ultras. I guess you can do without them if you have solid quads and knees. For me it just made sense start using them as early as possible and you will still have legs deep into the 100miler and with this route we were still climbing right up until 3kms to go. So extra kudos to you for doing it without poles. tubed 1

tubed Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Just want to encourage who wants to trail run and thinks maybe it is only for skinny types, I weigh after this weekend 99kg, am 6'4" with size 13 shoes - the point is that most of this ultra stuff on the trail is shuffling or a hike with intent. There is also very little repetitive stride on the trail - so you don't overload a single muscle group/ area as you do on the road. And just about everyone walks the hills, unlike road running, And the trail types are generally a lot more relaxed and encouraging than any cycling group - its a bit a of a 'get along gang' - nobody checks you skeef or judges your kit.
