So after a terrible taper week and a 2am wake up this morning my first marathon is done and dusted. My initial plan was a 4h15, but I got persuaded to join the 4h20 bus. Because my furthest run before today was only 30km, I think it was a wise decision. The initial easy pace saved my legs, and I managed to leave them at 32km and run equal splits for a 4h14. During December I was worried that my training is not on track, but Im happy after today. So Comrades qualifying is done and the real miles can start.

What supplements do you take during peak marathon training and how much?

Is it o.k. to pop a 100mg voltaren pill once a week?

I cannot see any benefits from doing that.

We train to adapt. The 1st step in that adaptation process is inflammation. If you limit/stop that inflammatory process early on you will not get most of the local changes (increased bloodflow/protein/growthfactors/etc) in the area to allow for adaptation and healing.

The anti-inflammatory will at best delay full recovery, and at worst prevent full recovery; which could lead to chronic conditions like defenerative tendinopathy (tendinosis).

There is no benefits. You will be better off training less, and allowing your body to slowly adapt to what you are doing, than training more, and 'having to' try and modulate what you think your body should be doing with drugs.

Congrats! Just by knowing what lies ahead of you, I can guarantee that you'll take a chunk of time out of your next marathon as well.

What would a D time be? I looked at the seeding batches, but its a little confusing.

Shortest qualifying race is a marathon

For a marathon:

Starts at sub 3:00 for A.

Ten for every twenty minutes above that the next batch up to D.

So B sub 3h20

C Sub 3h40

D Sub 4h

Then E is reserved for the crazies

F sub 4:20

G Sub 4:40

And H sub 5h

Best not to get into that habit of taking anti inflammatory for no reason

Rather drink some chocolate milk
