Mudsimus Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Tomorrow our little group is starting with our mid week longs runs. 4am start . I always have a problem staying awake in meetings after lunch time :-) Sent from my Redmi 4X using TapatalkIm up at 4 every morning. Quick strong coffee and Im on the road. After a few weeks you actually feel great during the day, not tired at all. If I sleep in until 6 Im dead on my feet the whole day. That said, Im in bed at 9. Jaws677 1
Stretch Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I actually got up at 04h40 this morning for a treadmill session. Got dressed, had a glass of water, stared at the treadmill for a solid 5 mins, got undressed and went back to bed. A crap night's sleep really messes with my head. Will get a good night's sleep tonight and put the miles in tomorrow morning.Done it before.. Got up.. Sat on the edge of the bed for 10 mins... Gone back to bed. Sometimes.. You actually get up and go out and end up having a great run... Not always though! Jaws677 1
Odinson Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Done it before.. Got up.. Sat on the edge of the bed for 10 mins... Gone back to bed. Sometimes.. You actually get up and go out and end up having a great run... Not always though! That's the thing. If you just start, 99% of the time you have a lekker run and feel great. For me, it's just getting my head straight and saying "f@ck it" and getting on with it. Jaws677 and Stretch 2
Barry Stuart Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 The Mrs and I wanted to do the Maritzburg City Marathon, although I probably would've done the 10km, and she probably would've done the 21.1km, seeing as she has done a few half marathons before. Our daughter wasn't feeling too well that morning, so it was a mad rush to casualty at one of the local hospitals on Sunday morning so that she could see a GP, so we would've missed out on PMB anyway. Next year, I'll be doing the PMB half marathon, although there are a few other runs coming up throughout the year.I hope your daughter is okay? Not an ideal way to start the morning. You'll love PMB, just a brilliantly hosted race. John Hall puts so much effort into that race, hence it being one of the few IAAF certified marathons in the country. Fruity 1

The trick is to race out the house and start your run while you're still mostly asleep. Jaws677, Odinson and Pulse 3

Put a small bottle of bioplus or similar next to the bed, drink it... ten minutes later you wont be able to sleep
Dirkitech Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Wow, thank you all for the responses to my question yesterday - you've all helped tremendously! Fruity 1
soslow Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Running cyclists and just runners, may I get your votes or opinions between the following shoes for a mix of shorter sprints and long distance running please?I've looked at the comments on certain shoes in the last 7 or so pages and some of them don't rate as highly on runrepeat as expected. So far I'm of the opinion that the Nike vomero 14's sounds to be the most versatile for both distance and running surface. The Nike winflo 5's seem like the best value price vs performance. These were the ones standing out at relative price ranges (and are available at sportsmans warehouse through vitality): brooks launch 6brooks ghost 11saucony kinvara 10nike air zoom vomero 14nike air zoom winflo 5 (scored a lot lower than winflo 4, not sure why)nike air zoom fly (comes only in white)nike air zoom pegasus (sounds soft and comfy but slow and heavy)I have the ghost 11 and they are truly amazing. She had quite a fever and a cough, but is on Panado syrup and a good antibiotic. Yah I believe it's one of the more popular road running events in KZN. Keen to do the half marathon next year. Jackes Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Wow, thank you all for the responses to my question yesterday - you've all helped tremendously! I might be the wrong person to comment, but decide for yourself. The first one has 1,483 on it and if the rubber wear is anything to go by, it might end up at 2,000km. The second pair is on 1,030. I am really happy with them and as you can see I will buy them blindly again. Dirkitech and Andrew Steer 2
Ferret69 Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Nice work on Deloitte, Ferret. You seem to be the go-to man for people wanting to run a sub 3 now! I'd love to join you guys for one of your Anvils. To be honest, I find the thought of running with you lot even more intimidating than the thought of a race. No need for any intimidation, we run no faster than 4.50s, usually at 5s or slower. Just time on the legs, some solid hill training and a good chat. Pull In.. it makes for a solid Mid week session. Ill Add I hated Nike and said I would never run in them, but you cant turn a blind eye to their R&D over the last 3 years, they are Streaks(excuse the pun) ahead of the game again right now... CobusV Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 I so much want to like and use Nike shoes, but high drop neutral shoes just does not want to work with my gait - especially with my right foot that pronates severly (left foot is neutral). So my road shoe of choice currently is the Saucony Freedom, which I rate to be a very very good shoe. However, my trail shoe is the Nike Terra Kiger. In the past 3 years, my two fastest 10km runs were done in these. Superb shoe.. Dirkitech 1
