Discovery Health - Vitality & Team Vitality plus everything else you need to know

Discovery is only interested in the heart rate/speed data. They will only allocate points for the corresponding heart rate/speed data and the duration of the session.

As mentioned, can you use the lap function and edit the data in your training software  or does it all have to be separate?

just don't eidt anything before it has sync'ed to discovery and you've got you're points. As soon as discovery pick up that something has been edited they won't give the points. I changed the distance for a swim and made it shorter because I knew the swim distance and I didn't get the points because I edited it, even though it's not a field they are interested in (although now that I think of it, the distance would have affected the speed calculations)

Thank you for the suggestion Grebel. I'm still fairly new to the Garmin browser software so will see if it is possible to add markers and such to a single activity :)

Anyone else having issues with their Gym visits not reflecting on Vitality?

It's a known issue since last week that they're not pulling through automatically. I called Discovery and they could see my gym visits on the system, so they loaded them.

Only for the past 3 weeks TomTom activities have not been reflecting on Vitality. I am aware that Vitality dropped TomTom beginning this year.

Is there a way to circumvent this by first uploading to Tapiriik or Endomondo and then to Garmin to still enable points to be allocated? Even if it is a manual and tedious process...

Thanks

That would not work, but they have only removed new sign ups, existing users are unefdected until such time as they announce a termination date which has not happened yet.

Thanks! I then need to investigate why points did not upload correctly!

Vitality/Garmin connect related question...

The time has come to upgrade my cell phone contract. I recently bought a Garmin wearable device and the Garmin Connect syncing through my phone has revolutionized my life (I used to have to connect my old device via cable to my PC and sync that way). Now you get home from a run/cycle/gym and put the device down next to your phone, magic happens and you get your points.

I currently use a Samsung S7 and although it is 2 years old. there are no issues. BUT everybody wants a new device to play with...

I don't really want to dump a whole lot of money into a contract every month just to have the latest Samsung so I was looking at the Huawei devices. However, I read somewhere that there seems to be syncing issue with the Garmin devices and the Huawei devices.

Is anybody using a Huawei P20 Lite with a Garmin wearable device?

Edit: or any Huawei device for that matter

My son got a p20 lite and I tried and just as long as you have the location on the Pairing with the Garmin(FR235 in my case) pairs and syncs straight away.

Is it supposed to show as “Bonus Miles”?

Is there still a way to activate this? Does it need to be done every year? I'm sure I activated it last year, but don't think I've received any bonus miles.

An additional thing to check with some of the devices, is the power management settings, which can play havoc with some tracking apps.

For example, the Discovery Insure app, and the Lezyne GPS app, refused to stay connected to my Nokia 6.1, until I found instructions on how to get around the power management settings.

I don't think Huawei is as bad as Nokia, but might be useful should you run into problems.

I recently looked into using a phone with AndroidAuto (tethering the phone to the car infotainment ... yada yada).

Not even the Hauwei rep at the shop could tel me if the P20 could do it.  Certainly not on the AndroidAuto list of capable phones.

Going from the S7 you may get a nasty surprize to realize just how many advanced functions you got used to already ...

I used a lesser phone when my phone screen got damaged .... eventually coughed up and had the screen repaired.  Have to admit these devices have infiltrated my daily life ....

Actually quite scary how much we rely on our devices nowadays...

MTN were offline today when I went in to do the paperwork. Gave me more time to think. Recycling my S7 on a pay as you go contract is starting to look more and more appealing.....
