WTF CSA?

Quite frankly CSA financial problems are quite an easy fix if they had the courage and conviction as the governing body of Cycling in S.A. to collect the levies from every event held in S.A.

A simple calculation of 7 x 35000 Argus entrants yields and income of quite a few million not to mention 94.7....Amashova and other well attended cycling events in S.A.However CSA don't have the courage or conviction to take on the big race organises like ASG....PPA and others. There is no other country in world where cycling events are held where the governing body doesn't get it's levies.Thats just my 2 cents worth.....Apparently they working on some super app that is supposed to improve their collections of levies as well as a rider ranking system but when questioned as to when this app will happen....The answer was they need over 4 million to launch it......and so the merry go round goes on.....

Replace the words “courage and conviction” with “competency” and it makes lots of sense!

Magda left 6 months ago, citing a "cowboy" problem.

With two ghosts in charge of the finance positions... The cowboys are running free on over the range?

CSA is a complete rip off & waste of money . I fail to see why as a recreational cyclist you are forced to be a member of CSA . Another form of wealth tax . I have my own disability cover Thank you very much .

The rider levy (R7) changed to R10 in 2017, so it's an extra R3 x 35000 for the Argus, and then the same 3x is applied to other events.

In it's current form I agree.

But, I do believe, as avid cyclists it is our responsibility to contribute to the health and wealth of cycling in the country.  Health that supports new events (or recently launched events) and wealth that goes to development of young riders and funding of national riders.  This should come via the national cycling body (or another national body of some sort).

I will gladly pay my R250 a year if the above was happening.  I have no interest or need for additional health cover, discount car hire etc etc.

Sadly, in the current CSA form, this is not happening and I (an I assume most others) are reluctant to stump up the money to pay for someone's new BMW (assumptions I know)...

With technology the way it is today how hard can it be to configure a direct levy payment to CSA from every entry at every event rather than to go cap in hand to organisers after the event begging for levies.R7 or R10 is not a lot of money considering what some event entries cost.......because if they waiting for 4 million to launch some new app it just ain't going to happen. One also does not need a smart app for rider rankings. Results of ny CSA sanctioned event should be submitted to their offices by Tuesday after an event and a simple excel spreadsheet will tabulate a rider ranking system if the data is inputted correctly. The biggest issue in CSA now is in it's management which has got to change.......

As mentioned before, the technology isn’t the issue. What type of thing they need, our developers built 10 years ago already for other industries.

Their problem is that they have no incentive to change. They effectively have a monopoly.

I'm no accountant but I do know that if an ordinary company has debts in excess of 4 million and no way of servicing that debt then that company will be forced to shut it doors....why is CSA still allowed to keep it's doors open or better still why are the people who got them into this position still hold the positions they hold.....

I only do the occasional race, so it makes no sense to pay for a year membership. You cannot enter a day race without paying the CSA fee (i tried but could not proceed with registration without CSA number). So although we would like to boycott them, I cannot.

Compared to SAA, CSA isn’t even on the Governments radar. Edited by Patchelicious

I Stand corrected, but only first 3 bunches need csa license, rest is non sanctioned

Lots events do this now to save money, only racing groups are sanctioned

You probably correct. However I think that a levy should be paid irrespective of what group you in.If CSA acted in a responsible way with these levies I am sure they would be able to then offer all of its members some kind of accident insurance in the event of an accident and also able to fund national teams instead of asking riders to fund themselves and asking riders to pay for a manager.I actually think it's time for a government style inquiry into CSA because even a leaked letter to the UCI on CSA financials has proven fruitless.....nobodys resigned or been fired as yet and so the rot continues....

Any event that has elite riders participating. The CT Cycletour is one of them. Only the racing bunches are sanctioned and therefor only these riders pay the levy fee

Has CSA announced the team(s) for Rwanda yet - I wonder if they do a financial health check on the riders before selection! :(
