I did it from 1g 06:33:30 in 2016 and first round of 3:11. I had time to spare

Good to know, hesitant to sign up for round 2, but don't get to ride it because I missed the gate by 1 min

Hmmm, so I took the few seconds to actually calculate it - it is 3.2km from the finish to the start, so (assuming I hit 3h exactly on the first lap) I'd need to a breakneck 11.29km/h average speed to be in time. Suddenly it doesn't seem that unrealistic... let me see how the Herald goes this weekend.

14.77km/h for you.

I've also been offered a second lap, seeded in 1H 06:41

Sounds way too tight to me!  They'd be collecting an extra R540 with very little risk that I'd actually make it on time.

Maybe in 2019

Received a mail just now  stating that because I paid for the double lap last year, it is offered for free this year.

Last year I requested my second lap entry fees to be refunded, (had no problem that the keep the first lap's money), but  just received some pre written default e mail back rejecting it.

Still feel they could have only refunded the second lap, but anyway...

So looks like if you paid last year for the double lap, and qualify again this year to do it, there will be no extra charge.

Dude,  remember this is a charity event.

I'm not sure how much of it actually goes to charity, but that is the intention.

I know you still expect to get value for money, but asking for a refund is a little bit harsh in my mind. If the CT makes a huge profit, lots of projects get funded, Ballhairs doesn't get a convertible (AFAIK).

Regarding the number pick ups, I would venture a guess it will be based on the new approach where you :

1) use your racetec chip to scan

2) it displays your name, start time / group

3) if you agree they print your number there and then

Benefits, if you have a dispute you sort it out right there, and you have some certainty that your racerec is linked to the correct person

With regards to the second lap I disagree. DUDe

If you don't like the price/format of the second lap, who is holding the gun to your head forcing you to pay it?

It got cancelled, they held it over for this year - you can now do your 2nd lap without having to pay again....I really don't see where your problem is.

Having been exclusively obsessed with MTB since I started cycling last year, this is the first time that I've paid any attention to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and I'm seeing LOADS of entries for sale in the classifieds and on other places like Facebook. Is this normal? There are new ads being posted every day, some trying to make every sent of their money back (i.e. the full R540), others literally giving it away for FREE just so that the entries don't go to waste?

I would think that with only 6 days left to register substitutions, most people would be listing their available entries for competitive prices in order to at least make something back rather than waiting it out at full price and then not selling it at all, but the fact that there are so many is weird? Or is that the case every year, with the sheer volume of people entering pushing up the amount of people that fall into the small percentage that can no longer make it?

Yes.

You enter in September. Life happens between September and March.
