Gen Posted December 1, 2017 Share 100km separating the top 7. Impressive. Will the winner finish before sunrise tomorrow? Last year Heinrich and Jeannie finished before 08h00 IICR.Only +-220km to go... and the way he has been going, he may even finish before the clock strikes midnight.. Shebeen Posted December 1, 2017 Share Yeah, take away the mechanical time and frustration and she's sitting 3rd at least... Benky is closing in a little on Marco it seems, gap was 60km 4 hours ago, it's 40km now - can only assume MM had a little nap or longish stop. This race isn't over until it's over - must be some ridiculously tired minds and bodies out there. And still the little matter of 270km's odd left. They've seriously set an incredible pace this year MM had about a 3 hour stop. While it might look like he's got this in the bag, and the weather is quite mild, as Benjamin Franklin said"anything can happen in the last 200km of a MTB race" Tatt, Andrew Steer, peetwindhoek and 2 others
Slowbee Posted December 1, 2017 Share The last 240 km is where the race is, as this is where the uphills start. SO Mr Benkie skipped Sutherland. I wonder if it was because he sun is up and the daylight hours make is easier to ride and stay awake? Trade this off against the heat. Might power nap at Tankwa Padstal or Ceres, depending on where he is in the race.
