Don't want to split hairs here and I haven't actually seen them up close but it is Friday..

In my experience I can't imagine a "A list company" purposely putting out an inferior product. Its in their best interest to make the best quality product every time. Just an opinion though. Maybe they had lots of old stock at the factory when fox changed suppliers or changed the product now they are selling them aftermarket.

A question to the experts: Is it just me or did the fox forks get stanchion damage easier than RS or is it purely subjective?

I've experienced the same , rockshox stanchions are tough as nails ...fox is A little soft but nothing ridiculous

Yes. It's a trade off between plushness and durability. RS aren't as plush but last forever, Fox need far more frequent servicing to keep the coating where it should be.

Respectfully, unless there's an independent test to corroborate that, I'm calling BS

I'm going on the ratio of Fox:RS forks that he's seen coming through his shop with that particular problem, personally...

"made of cheese" is a common reference to the Fox stanchion coating

I've ridden both RS and Fox

RS lasted 2 years without any service and F-all damage to stancions (edit: sold the bike, that's why I don't have it anymore)

Fox - not even 18 months and the stancions were toast, even after cleaning and regular service (not at the recommended interval, but still more that the RS).

proof enough?

Not even vaguely I'm afraid.

Today you win the internet

I love how you telling/asking everyone to provide evidence/proof where you yourself have provided well... an interesting thread for Friday

I'll give it a listen some time. Just clarifying.. I'm not talking about "Chinese carbon vs the real deal" here. I'm taling about a seal manufacturer, who is obviously one of the very best in the world and therefore chosen by Fox to manufacture their seals.

RS still got nothing on how tough marzos are...mine hasn't had a service for bout 3 years and still feels better than my FOX 40s, my 40s need new seals and the stanchions are starting to take the wear after 3 months
