Simon Kolin Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Yes. It's a trade off between plushness and durability. RS aren't as plush but last forever, Fox need far more frequent servicing to keep the coating where it should be.Respectfully, unless there's an independent test to corroborate that, I'm calling BS
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Respectfully, unless there's an independent test to corroborate that, I'm calling BSI'm going on the ratio of Fox:RS forks that he's seen coming through his shop with that particular problem, personally... "made of cheese" is a common reference to the Fox stanchion coating
fanievb Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Respectfully, unless there's an independent test to corroborate that, I'm calling BS I've ridden both RS and Fox RS lasted 2 years without any service and F-all damage to stancions (edit: sold the bike, that's why I don't have it anymore) Fox - not even 18 months and the stancions were toast, even after cleaning and regular service (not at the recommended interval, but still more that the RS). proof enough?

Meezo Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Not even vaguely I'm afraid.Today you win the internet I love how you telling/asking everyone to provide evidence/proof where you yourself have provided well... an interesting thread for Friday
Bos Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Have a listen to this podcast. https://cyclingtips.com/2016/09/cyclingtips-podcast-episode-12-the-magic-and-mystery-behind-bicycle-specs/ "It’s a fascinating peek behind the curtain at a process most of us take for granted, and one that you’re unlikely to look upon the same way once you’ve sat down for a listen."I'll give it a listen some time. Just clarifying.. I'm not talking about "Chinese carbon vs the real deal" here. I'm taling about a seal manufacturer, who is obviously one of the very best in the world and therefore chosen by Fox to manufacture their seals.

They (SKF) will have different price levels, correlating to the tolerances, materials and finish of their various products. They don't just make ONE type of seal / wiper, they make the ones that they sell under their own name (retail) and then the ones that they make for other companies based on how much they want to spend.
Quagga Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Not even vaguely I'm afraid. What proof would be good enough for you? How many RS have we seen here with damage as bad a FOX? Not a lot.I have had both also, RS on one bike and Fox on the other, Fox broke......same maintenance and care.
