That's a mole snake. They are not venomous but it will still moer you if you mess with it.

Edit - they are a necessary part of the greater ecosystem. Those berms are often tunneled into by moles so they actually do us great service

Nasty mole hole on a fast section of Bloemendal Homerun today ....

 

As much as I prefer runners on their own trails, and snakes in the bushes ....

 

Snakes most certainly are a vital part of the ecosystem ....

Badly mangled remnants of a snake on Bottelary this morning.  

 

Another enroute to Klipheuwel ....

 

Lots of sticks and ropes ... each one getting the spidey senses going until the all clear ... 😉

Nearly rode over a boomslang on snake eyes this morning
