Cois hoe gaan dit ?

Friend's mom was hospitalized over the weekend. Diagnosed on Monday, advanced lung cancer ... beyond treatment.

PS - absolutely brilliant service form the ER staff at Cape Gate Medi-Clinic !!! To the other patients that complained about "slow service" ... Half the ER staff spent more than 4 hours just to stabilize this old lady before she could be transported to Tygerberg. The one Dr's shift ended at 22:00, he did not leave until 1:00 the next morning, spending all his time with this lady. At 4:00 on Sunday morning it took us 10 minutes to book her in at Tygerberg, and she got proper ICU care immediately !!! Hats off to our medical staff in the public and private sector

It sounds like the medical system in Cape Town works like a well lubed chain. And you do get some stunning doctors that would go out of their way to assist people.

Had a very rough few days. Lost my voice for a few days due to vomiting (first in a very long time) and the worst runs. Could not keep anything down.

Today was the first day where I had a cheese sandwich and an apple that stayed down.

On another note, this morning my wife saved a budgie. So we are looking for the owner, so I had something to keep me busy attempting to keep the little bird inside the house. So was a bit of an distraction for today

Look, we know 2 things...

1- if the doc has time to read over stuff and call you later (as opposed to immediately), you're good.

2 - he chose to run off and see someone else - so you're better off than the ICU person!

Chin up man. Everything will work out.

needed another view on this and you are right. Both points are good points.

Just praying that the peritoneal has cleared a bit.

The budgie’s mom came to get him this afternoon. The cage blew over in the wind and it came out. Still a juvenile. We baptized him Moaner. Got a cage and food for it today, gave it Quinoa.

So will look for a budgie of our own this weekend. Helped my wife as it took a liking to her and slept in her hand last night.

And helped me a bit as well to be honest. Darn it now I am in tears. Just the little companion that wiggled around, broke out the hamster cage it was in, and was glad to see me with an apple in hand.

Awesome, looked totally at home on your hand! I’ve never had a bird (other than very temporary wild rescues) but would love one. You’ve got me thinking...

Cois, glad to hear the budgie and her family will be reunited and you are looking at your own budgie family. I am sure that the transferral of care towards something like that is also therapeutic!

But anyway, I have been quietly following this thread wanting to wish you well, but your resolve is inspirational! I have been through the c thing with my dad on top of his Parkinsons which he is also fighting and beating( over 15 years now).

For him the c is clear and the Parkinsons is less than it was at diagnosis, although at 84 there are other issues. But, his positive attitude mirrors yours, he is a fighter and so are you! He is winning and so will you! Positive attitude!

Actually spellcheck gave me a new word! attitudude!

We had 2 cockatiels few years ago. They were extremely tame. Ate out of our hands, wold sit on ones shoulder too. But as soon as you near the cage then they wanna get in. Cockatiels are territorial.

How are you Cois ?

Been thinking of you !!  My hart goes out to your family.  Given our recent experiences we were again reminded just how powerless it feels to be the family member ....  Pray that you and your family may find inner peace in this time.

Had our friend's funeral yesterday.  And today I was working in the very ward where she spent her last days .....  Will be working in and around the area for some time still ....  Adds a different dimension to what is supposed to be routine engineering work when you spent time there with family as patients.

Not doing to bad. Just having a problem getting my meds. Two Dischem Pharmacies did not have stock of my Beta Blocker. So will go and try to find beta blockers somewhere in Pretoria.

My wife is starting to take strain. She spoke to some of the family that cares in this week. Told them of the November Doctors visit, but left out the part that if the cancer of my Peritoneal increased they will not continue.

That is one of the worst things one could do. I for one do not know if I can ever go back to Steve Biko if I have to go work there. It is not the loss, just the torture they put me through.

Sitting in Wilgers knowing that I lost a few family members and friends, waiting to be poisoned by the same meds that killed some of them is hard.

We got news yesterday that another chemo buddy of mine was told yesterday that he is now terminal (brain cancer) as they used all routes of treatment, and there is no hope left.

The other friend is recovering at home. He must see the doctor on the 17th to decide the route forward. Cut and remove or try another chemo...
