While I am on a roll...

Why re-invent the crank... well you can see where I am going with this! :whistling:

I get that. I too am sometimes frustrated with all the different BB standards and not to mention all the proprietary systems like the Look cranks.

But cranks have been reinvented many times over the years. If not, we would all still be using cotter pins.

Some stick, like Cannondale's BB30 (which has become a standard now) and some don't.

From those articles the cups are epoxyed in and then the epoxy remains forever and you just replace the cups! So if Epoxy was not used it will damage frame as there would have been play.

Maybe go check your purple bike in the garage for any play in the cups :P

Just the purple one?

So Cycles Direct initially promised to address the issue by replacing the frame... now they will have it fixed only that we all agree is not a solution in the BB are?

Let's hope you don't get into this situation and maybe, as you don't really live it, also remove All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”

May I suggest you also read my earlier post where I advocate also hearing the LBS's side of the story as every story as three sides to it.

You may well find that you are "doing something" for a situation that is not as "evil" as you firstly assumed ............ that should again be read in context with my signature file that you politely quoted.

What history has shown over the years on the hub forums, is that all facts are to be laid out before the offending parties are lined up against the wall and machine gunned down and given a shallow grave to lay in.

How is failing bb's on the Specialized frames, not a Specialized issue?

This sure a $##* is not the first time this has happened.

Not a warranty issue because they shift blame to the installer.  Maklik.

They could just as easily claim wear and tear then... "The rotating bb cups caused wear and tear on you frame sir, sorry."

Oh you mean the ones that are NOT supposed to be loose, yea, sorry my fault, probably should have glued them or something.

Well in this case, Sh*t design or not, the blame does fall on the installer. Cycles Direct have been selling Spez for many years. This was/is common practice on those Spez frames. So it should have been done. Regardless of whether or not in your oponion it is bad design. Epoxied BB cups rarely fail if ever.

thank goodness is not Cannondale

I had a Cannondale frame that I got at a bargain of note ... there was a bit of paint that chipped around the rear brake caliper. Sent them pics and did a warranty claim thinking the paint would be touched up.

They in turn asked me to return the frame and replaced it with a brand new one..

So the Big C are "ok" in my books.

Did you have an unfortunate encounter with them?

Lastly, these cups were permanently bonded into the frames via the epoxy method, even on new replacement warranty frames... why was it not done at the factory?

They are not permanently bonded to the frame. The epoxy bonds to the carbon, yes, but not to the plastic. The epoxy forms a snug hole for the cups to fit in. The cups can then be removed after if need be.

Look, I agree it's a stupid design. But the point I've been trying to make is: Stupid design or not, it was not a once of thing. It was common practice on these frames and every Spez dealer knew this. Cycles Direct have been a Spez dealer for many years. They should have known what the procedure is for these frames.

Ek het en is confused so wil net weet wie is wie hier. Want die "nuwe" LBS klink maar dodgy as hulle se jy moet die BB epoxy

Its actually a std repair and recommended for the Spez bikes by a few bb manufacturers. It why I wouldn't touch their press fit bb bikes. The actually comes out quite easily. However I would prefer to silicone glue the bb into the frame
