It's possible but atm they lead the race with 2 options.. now we get a incredible 2 days where they most likely will see assaults from Ineos and Bahrain..and then the ITT where anything (fall, mechanical etc) can happen so ideally someone would want a bit of lead before it.

It just sets it up for some great racing

Aaah the Giro.

Never seems to let us down. And if it's a poor day's racing, the scenery will make up for it!

Great comments about Sunweb  management , Kelderman cracking , Tao doing all the work , Bilbao strong ride , Hindley not working but winning etc . I wonder why or who gave Ben O Conner the go ahead on that climb to try for a break away after having two fantastic days in a row and on the queen stage he attempts it again . I know they need exposure for a new sponsor but that move move was bound to fail from the onset .

That Hindley bloke is a bit of a toolbag, innit? I haven't seen him at the front once until the sprint.  Was he pretending he's not allowed to work cause Kelderman?

One of the replays I saw of the sprint clearly showed Tao shacking his head and having a few choice words for Hindley. I get that they used Wilco as an excuse for the wheel sucking tactic and I suppose most riders would have done the same. The advantage they(Sunweb) got with 2 riders up top. I don't agree with it but it's sport at the end of the day, not a Sunday church charity fundraiser.

All I can say is, we in for a cracker last few days....

on the flipside, if the leader has a mechanical, no one attacks. this is baffling to me

The rider of the day for me was Rowan Dennis who basically rode all the GC contenders with the exception of Tao and Hindley off his wheel. In the process he did a fantastic job for his team by ensuring Tao has a very good chance to make at least the podium. Nor bad for a time trial specialist who according to many armchair specialists is not a team player.

Are people seriously upset with tactics?

Oi vey....

It all became clear to me when riding with heart rate and power while on my own, then drafting another rider. The difference is astonishing, and so Hindley's strategy was obvious.

Geoghegan was never going to crack Hindley nor was Hindley going to take a turn. He could have opted to slow down a bit, hoping his advantage over Bilbao wouldn't shrink too much, get a bit of gas back in the tank and back himself in the inevitable climber's sprint.

But a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, so Geoghegan took the money and ran, but it got snatched at the line.

Hindley ( Sunweb) had 3 options:

1. Work with Tao and opened up the gap on Kelderman in which case either Hindley or Tao would have been in pink today.

2. Wait on the top of the climb for Kelderman and work with him to try and reduce the gap on Tao

3. Follow Tao, make no contribution and go for the stage victory

Option 1 was probably a no- go as Kelderman was the protected and best placed rider, so the choice was between option 2 or 3.

We will know on Sunday whether option 3 was the best. (my own view is that it was).
