Great ride by Hatherly - 8th not to be sniffed at in this field of riders. I’d love to hear some opinions from some more knowledgeable than I am but would we back him above some of the other riders on a more technical course?

Great race!!!

Pity for MF, he looked so good both climbing and on the descends.

Man did it take the commentary team ages to figure out that his dropper was stuck.

Could see from first climb it was stuck.

Friday one of the women also had issues with hers... they should use Lyne components droppers

Yeah.. Pretty impressive to maintain a podium standing on his legs for half a lap.. Makes you wonder if the weight sacrifice of a manual override would be worth it. Lecomte also had some issues with her dropper... But hers was just getting stuck (probably from some dust/dirt)

No, I do not have anything to contradict what you posted, you are probably spot on.

 

I read about a week ago on the bikeperfect website that Pidcock reckoned his starting position in Albstadt would be 90 or something and that he is aiming for a top 16 so that he can start the short track next week.

 

He perhaps just gave a rough indication at the time without doing calculations.

I’m going to try find out why they talk about Pidcock having to be in the top 16, to qualify for the Short Track. I wish there was a place where the rules and details are simple to lookup.

MVDP isn't much of a climber and Albstadt is a monsters climing course. He did well to finish where he did. Also he, like several others is trying to Peak for Tokyo so we'll only see him improve. Nove Mesto Na Morave suits him a lot more than Albstadt. Then he's got Tour De France before Tokyo so no point pushing himself to the limit.

I have a bet going with a pal of mine that N1no won't equal Julien's record this year. I owe Vic big time

It's gona be tight... N1N0 looked pretty sharp today and seems super keen on that equalling record win.

I'm actually glad he's looking sharp as it is therefore very likely the younger guys will be peaking around Tokyo race. Its also comforting to see a Sub-Vet do so well in XCO...

Mens race was great, ladies .. well one person dominating from the start does not make a great race, for me at least, Which is what MvdP is used to doing in CX, attack early and never to be seen again.

 

Man of the match for me is MF, also what he said at the end about being happy with his place ultimately with a smile, unlike grumpy NS

 

I'm going to have to polish up my German for that commentary, don't know if I can take another season of that hack Rob Walnut. Sure he is popular but so uniformed it hurts. Surely it should be  a criteria that commentator have a broad knowledge of cycling and of the athletes.

 

But hey its free, so should not complain should I.
