Nope

I have ridden various hilly routes in my area and then downloaded the same routes and ridden them virtually on Rouvy, the climbs are definitely easier in the virtual version, albeit it only slightly.

The downhills are harder though, not a lot of recovery freewheeling before you stop completely :whistling:

I only have this last week or 2 experience with online training, don't use a smart trainer but try to ride as the 'route' requires ... As Frosty suggested before, bigger gear on the ups, easier on the downs, counter intuitive but works for me as well.

I do find that these training sessions are harder than my outdoor sessions would have been like you say, no freewheeling but shorter. I generally put in a lot longer rides during the week outdoors normally though. What I miss the most is my long (5-6hr) outside rides on the weekend and it's not for company as I ride on my own anyway ... Yes I know some do them on trainers but I don't have that mental fortitude!

I'm not following any dedicated training regime/plan during this time, doing it to pass time and keep some semblance of fitness and my SANITY (my wife reckons I should be fitter after the lockdown than before)

It's a welcome diversion from the things going on around me I guess.

Seeing as Jackals is taking a break, I set one up for 16:0 today after work. About an hour for ride from Gordons bay to Pringle Bay. 279 m of ascent at a max of 7%. Look for Gordans Bay, seems a spell check on the name was missing. All welcome.

Yes, I do have a Tacx Flow. My frame of reference (Sufferfest) is a lot harder and the trainer gives me way more resistance than what Rouvy does. If Sufferfest asks for me to produce 330W of power the trainer increases the resistance to match. I was a bit deflated whilst racing against other folks and end up being over a kilometer behind them within as little as 5km even though I was pedaling like a rabid dog.

Your FTP setting wont have an influence on the trainer resistance.

Are you riding a smart trainer?

Make sure your bike is connected correctly to the trainer and that you have performed a calibration.

Well thought this morning ride will be easier, hardly was with long climbs :)

I'm already thinking of Saturday's race...dutch classic. Invites and link to follow.

Edit: where is the flat Amstel Gold races

When i had my sufferfest subscription and rouvy, they felt almost exactly the same. Not sure why you are getting this. Check all of your settings and do the calibrate with Rouvy as well.

As per Jakkals above, perform the Rouvy calibration (spin down) regularly and exactly as per the instructions.... and also make sure your personal settings are correct (body weight, bike weight) and tyre pressure (low to mid range as per recommended on the tyre side wall).

Rouvy Help desk provide the following:

"If you think your trainer giving you inappropriate resistance, first of all, you should provide a calibration and if it doesn't help you should do a Rouvy resistance test to prove if it’s SW or HW issue – or to be able to find the best solution. To be sure it’s necessary to test Trainer’s resistance both in ERG mode (Power mode in Free Ride)"

See more in the link below

Once you have done this and still experience issues, contact them info@rouvy.com for further assistance. They might ask for the above test data.

Maybe try do a new FTP test on Rouvy, forget what you thought your FTP was and do a min of a 20 min TT type test (20 minutes constant effort as hard as possible for the 20 minutes and then divide the result by 1.05

See Rouvy FTP test process here:

After having spent many years riding "online" I've learnt:

- There are some very strong and anonymous riders out there (serious amateur racers or secret pro's?)

- There are some who are clearly stronger than what we think is normal.... simply just better than us

- As in real cycling (sports), there are e-doping cheats (human nature)….

- All you (we) can do is try make sure our set up is 100% correct and then just enjoy the training / racing.

Hope this helps

Did my first ride on Rouvy last night and enjoyed it. Fewer people than Zwift and I like the look of tackling some of those famous climbs on there.

But that avatar - no man - the virtual me I looks like he has hip dysplasia.

Will join one of the upcoming hub races.

But in the end it's just me in my study going nowhere at 280 watts on a bike that balances itself. I can't wait to ride up chappies again or smash out a faircape loop.

haha, he is rockin' and rollin' man. It is like watching Goldmember doing his splits and leg stretches.....

It does look a little disconcerting

If anything I'm finding the resistance in Rouvy, Fulgaz and Zwift to be higher than real life.

Rode up Alp d'Huez last week in Fulgaz and it felt like murder in ERG mode. Don't remember it being that hard in real life but then it is very difficult to maintain 250W - 270W on a 10% gradient at 85rpm...

What was realistic is how badly my legs were cooked afterward!!

Pft. You just want everyone to know you've ridden Alp d'Huez.
