2020 Custom Epic S-Works SRAM AXS (Is this the lightest Epic S-Works in SA?)

if the OP wanted to burn cash, I can conservatively see 300grams on the seatpost stem and handlebars.  Quite a bit on the brakes and disks too

Very easy but expensive to get this down below 9 and still run 2.35 tyres

But then it starts getting even more expensive hunting grams - derailleur cage, chainring, screws, pulleys

Had my 2014 scalpel at 9.8kgs with slime and pedals at one point.

2.25 tires on it at that time.

Had cutting edge stuff with ax-lightness seatpost, wheels, bars and stem.

And had a clavicular crank with integrated srm power meter.

I'd be surprised if this s-works could not be made much lighter. That said, good choice on going axs, it is so much better than mechanical shifting. Even if it weighs slightly more

It's 2020, can I please start a petition for it to be illegal to say 'slime'

Call it sealent, tyre melk, Stan's, Joe's, rubber juice whatever

But yeeesh 'slime' sounds so basic when we're riding these cool machines

whats worse its 2020 and some okes still use tubes!

It’s all made in China

I do not think the Made in China is the issue .. .more that a really cheap Ti bolt is more than likely from a poor QC factory in China ... vs a more expensive Ti bolt made in a high QC factory.

IF it is for things like water bottle cage bolts, then no harm ... but the moment you are using stem bolts you are looking for trouble.

Agreed in principle but I think consumers would be surprised how many branded items come out of these same factories - not just talking bike parts

You’d like to think the brands have better QC but that’s often not the case

Ooooooo..... my pet topic.

My first eye opener was a fishing factory in Gansbaai .... at the end of the production line was a collection of labels .... the factory engineer laughed when he saw my expression. ALL the brands were represented !!! The tins were labelled as per the shop orders .... and priced as per client perceptions .... from the cheapest to the most expensive, all 100% the same.

Two years later the competition commission said this was unfair, and the labels were auctioned out .... now each factory supplies a couple of brands.

2018 we did some work in chicken processing plant in Bellville .... up to the deep fryer plant exactly the same process. Then the final product undergoes a visual test ... best looking goes to the Woolies packing line, good goes to the packing line for the regular stores, as always the rejects are packed for the factory store .... but ultimately it is the same product, just packaged and priced as per visual appearance.

Back to BOLTS .... Friend bought the genuine syretch bolts from Grovernor Ford, even in a Ford parts box .... week later we pick up bolts at Nut and Bolt in Epping, and they wrap up a shipment of stretch bolts for Grovernor Ford !!

Sadly it is becoming very difficult to "see" the quality of some products ... and relying on a premium price to confirm better quality is hardly scientific .... rather open to abuse ....

It has become so bad that on some projects we require an independent lab test to confirm the product delivered to site is actually the product that was ordered ....

I think its a cool thread, waiting for the next S-works person to rock up, sand off the heavy paint, throw on some proper light weight wheels, a light groupset, a 40g saddle and a light cockpit.

At the moment in SA its probably the lightest one.
