Anyone hear about this one this? 😞

IMG_1217.jpeg

I've seen photos of a few injured cyclists and what looks like a tour bus

... I've also noted the driving of these tour busses lately has been p1ss poor

Posted

Heavy scenes on Chappies happening now - 1 rider deceased, 1 critical. Not sure of all the details and just sad sad sad. Such a beautiful day and a ride with mates shouldn't end this way.

Stay Safe Everyone.

So automatically it is the buses fault….

post says bikes were going at high speed….

This is an AWFUL experience for everyone involved.

The bus driver did not get out of bed this morning and think…l how can I ruin someone’s life….

The cyclists did not get on their bikes this morning and think…. This could be my last day on earth.

You were not there, you do not drive an HMV for a living, I’m sure you never descend a downhill on your bike faster than is, maybe, prudent.

How about letting the investigation take its course and have some sympathy for EVERYONE involved in this tragic accident

I wonder if the driver got out of bed, looked at himself in the mirror and said to himself "I'm going to be in charge of a muli tonne MV on a multi use road where there are runners, hikers, walkers, cyclists, tourists and picnickers, I better be ultra careful".

I know I said "Be alert and ride carefully" as I set out this morning and still I got buzzed by a motorbike doing 120 plus and close passed at over the speedlimit by a myciti driving like he was in a mini cooper.

Those tour busses are often shocking - I've confronted Hylton Ross drivers and a Paarl Rock Tour driver for close passes at speed and been told where to get off in no uncertain terms.

We don't know the full details but what we do know is that riders are dying at an alarming rate on the roads and because we ride all the time in the places where it's happening, we know WHY it's happening.

Another f@#@kin tragedy

Any number of things to someone who wasn’t there.

In my mind TBone means they hit the side of the vehicle.

The picture of the bus has the front window smashed.

So much open to interpretation but at the end of the some one is dead and many people lives are affected in many ways.

I could have been - I do often enough. I know what that road feels like from both sides of the coin. Ive felt my stomach drop on more than one occasion when I have double and triple checked to turn and something comes out from nowhere - fast, faster than it should…

If the car door being opened is what caused this accident, the way it was reported on SmileFM news at 6pm last night is really disingenuous and infuriating as a cyclist. I quote the news reader: "... another cyclist was killed when he fell off his bike and was struck by a car".

People opening car doors without checking that it is safe to do so is clearly a serious problem, why omit the cause of the accident from the news report? A perfect opportunity to remind people to check before opening their door so they don't kill someone. Instead the story just widens the divide between cyclists and car drivers, because going on the information provided on a national news broadcast implies that the accident was in fact caused by the cyclist falling off his bike. Makes me f*#!%&@ angry! 😔

Welcome to the new age of reporting ...........................

Most reporters report news, not facts. Sales KPI's trump truth every time.

Having a car door opened in your face does not drive the mainstream narrative. Cyclists are pictured as the cockroaches on our congested roads.
