Put a shock on the front, had to transplant brakes, install a cluster and Derailleur and new chain. Got a really wide rapide bar on, and a short stem. Took her for a 45k shakedown, and it's all good. You can have a look at Chain Reaction, they have a few suntour options, but like you say, could get expensive.
