Cycled to the trails on Saturday. Looking like a christmas tree .... At the gate entering the trails I stop and switch off the lights. Enjoy the trails, some drinks .... Traverse back to Odendaal .... and I cycle some 3 or 4km on the road, shaking my head at other cyclists without lights, before I realise I never switched the lights back on when got off the trails. On the topic of lights and visibility. Saw LOTS of roadies out riding today. Two on Bottelary caught my eye. Just after the Hazendal turn, I noticed a slight flicker .... Oooo, two cyclists some 500m up the road. The one has a nice bright flashing light !! Probably a Bontrager or similar. The other has no light. I was about 100m behind them, trying to figurre out if this rider has a Bontrager of Varia ... no change in the flicker speed, so probably a Bontrager. At this point I see the other rider actually has a light on his bike, and it is on flicker .... one of this 7cm strip light units .... it is so faint that you simply dont see it until too late. Sure, maybe the battery was just low, but that light really is of no practical use. Frosty 1
