best of luck getting back into it.

I'm giving it until the end of the week before attempting to ride again, body is still feeling weak after my bout of swine flu last week.

Thanks man, so far so good ....

Good rides yesterday and today, just being careful to keep the chest warm (an old 'gilet between the undershirt and shirt' trick 🥸) and using a buff round the mouth and nose.

Mudguard fitted (and rear seat-post rack functions are a REAR mudguard-ish) - let wet commutes commence!

(backstory - popped in at NILS/Woodstock Cycles - I wanted VINTAGE Alu ribbed 😇shorty racing bike mudguards, like I had in the 70's; he did not have a-n-d the radius would be for say up to 25mm tyres, and I am running 38mm, before moving to 45mm...

The skinflint/saver in me spied SHINY shorty guards, at R80 each - my kind of pricing a-n-d helping him reduce stock, maybe 😁.

Found the carbon fork on the GOANT Revolt has a M5 bolt hole UNDERNEATH the fork crown, so I drilled out the rivets holding the central brake-bolt mounting tab on the shiny guad, removing the hanger, and then mounted it - using 'crush' washers, the mudguard. It IS short, will see how much spray it keeps off, and revert back.

Since I have 2 aluminium water bottles for this bike, I am trying to make it 'my own', rather than just boring plastic!

(please be gentle on me...!)

Chris

Bicycles open up a world you thought you’d left behind.

I found this shiny red Kent trike at Cash Converters and my MIL who will be 82 next week got spinning after 40+ years, 3 hip replacements, various other surgeries and having cared for her husband with MS for 20 years in their twilight.

Imagine doing something you thought you’d never, ever do again. She was so empowered, just full of adrenaline and dopamine and all the good chemicals!

Unfortunately, my bike hasn't taken me anywhere recently. I have had lens replacement surgery on both my eyes. The ophthalmologist was a bit cautious on my left eye since I previously had surgery on that eye many years ago.

Luckily, I have been given the go-ahead to commence cycling again but it's back to baby steps since i have not been in the saddle for 8 weeks now. I have to get my cycling legs back before joining the cycling club group rides again. And the cold mornings aren't helping with that at all. But soon I will be out there again.

It’s cool hey Buff?

She’s since done a few more spins since and yesterday even went off-piste with me walking behind on the grass behind the carport and down the driveway for a little bit. I just had a finger on the basket in case I needed to grab it, and helped her a little with going back up the hill, but she’s killing it! I actually did a few panicky runs after her once or twice on the tar as I felt she was going a bit faster than I liked 😂 but she had control.

Spent a few, very tranquil days out on Strawberry Hill Farm near Grootvadersbos...

Staying at the top of a hill gives amazing views... but does mean you have ride up the hill to get home!

It only takes 50m of muddy cow tracks to mess up a ride... (sacrificed my toothbrush when I got back to clean my gears for the next ride!)

Always special riding with your kids...

Some amazing switchbacks through the indigenous forest!

Late Friday afternoon: clean washing trip to Noordhoek, and then return with the next load…

Amazing late-afternoon light; setting sun, under heavy cloud, making the green colours ‘pop’. Fun pics of me trying to photograph my shadow against the walls of Chappies.

Cold. Colder than i expected. Lots of cars watching the ‘novelty’ of the setting Sun, given its absence in recent days!

Gravel bikes? Pffft says the Cannibal, those are for softies!

This 1993 Eddy Merckx really is a monster that can handle anything. Like win a TdF.........and take me up and down the mountain, 32 years later, without missing a beat.

It's OK to love a bike! (I couldn't just post 1 picture of it!)
