Where has your bike taken you today?

My most chilled serene place,Barry’s point at the top of Thaba. No better place to enjoy that banana bread or doughnut just sitting on the rock staring out yonder. Makes any ride worth the climb up there .

Then thump it down to the bottom ️...

:D I was thinking of you when I wrote that. Some of your pictures of snow capped Alps and crystal lakes are in there with a fair chance!

Maybe if I add a nice Heidi to the snow capped alps and crystal lakes....

Got a bit lost on the Weekend in the Sierra Nevada, California. Found a trail on an app that was rated Black Diamond. Didn’t really think about the detail and then spent 4 amazing hours riding, carrying the bike, shitting myself on steep downhills, destroying a wheel, hitchhiking a lift with some hillbilly gold prospectors, trying to find a path and grinning constantly.

After a couple of weeks of the bike I dragged myself out of bed this morning to join my mate on a road loop.

It was a coldAF start, but as th sun came over the mountains it turned into a stunner of a morning.

It does help to have an arrangement with someone to go ride, if not for that I would've said f@ck it and slept late.7504747a3615a60f32721d6081831a3f.jpgc26ae9e2fcf194333ffef30eb8528172.jpg9008b39034957fe29ca081d1c813756d.jpgc4c889a46957e4bec1bde0f1f735e6c1.jpg26f80ae5b01c5511fe63379d03e59e7b.jpg3c5391a94a608e866a1ffb324aae092d.jpg

I didn’t know they had trails there.

What are they like and how technical?

They have various trails that goes up to 25km in length (black route). I did the red that is 15km in length with 320m of climbing. I would say 70% is single track, 30% jeep track on the red. It is mostly not too technical, but there are 2 or 3 places that can be tricky. These are well marked with danger signs.

I enjoy the trails as the missus and kids can chill at the restaurant while I ride and there are showers if you want to clean up afterwards. They are kiddie friendly with pony rides and a nice play area as well. Trail fees are R50.

Ride towards the light, with Flippa, at Rietvlei...!

I call all those "cathedral of cycling" type of pictures because it gives me the same kind of feel I get when walking into a real cathedral with the sun coming from above through all the stained glass windows. I suppose I sometimes get a bit of a spiritual experience from riding.

This is what someone at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology thinks.......no, not me. Come to think of it, they WERE the ones who shot a rubber bullet through my wifes' car light causing R5000 damage........but still, it wasn't me! Must say, I'm impressed that there is no spelling mistake, that sure says something of how our education has improved!
