Big weekend of prep for 96 Hours - 530kms & 4000+ meters of climbing in 23 hours of riding over 3 days from Vienna, through the Czech Republic into Slovakia and finishing in Bratislava. The stats don't do it any kind of justice - the second day was one of the hardest and most beautiful days of riding I've ever had, especially after covering 210km the day before.

It takes me back to my first 947, when you could train on Kyalami 4 evenings a week leading up to race day,   some safe roads all in the same direction, some fast some slow, big bunches, walkers etc   Monday and Wednesday clockwise, Tuesday and Thursday anticlockwise.

We were all changing from work clothes to cycling kit in the car, everyone doing the Bib-shuffle in the from seat pretending it was normal.

yeah did that a couple of times, I worked just up the road at the time in Woodmead to it was super convenient.

Just wasnt as dedicated as I am now so did not take enough advantage of it.

Wish that we could still do that. It was such great safe training. Every time I drive past Kyalami I see the track empty and think what a waste.

A few years back they built a proper go kart facility in benoni. I enquired a few times via social media if they would be open to having cyclists train there but never had any response.

A quick zoom into that windsock way in the distance would indicate Gale certainly got up on the wrong side of the bed today!

The Highveld certainly not the prettiest in winter ..

Gale rolled out of bed part the way through my ride this morning. Luckily she was still cleaning the sleep out of her eyes by the time I got home, so I did not get her full attention.

Took my new shoes for their first spin yesterday, Lake MX241's very comfy but a tad warm, might need to make some ventilation holes
