Its longer, dont think its steeper though.

Incidentally, going up there was where I got my first speeding fine ever, 31 December 1993.

Cops used to park at what was the spar on the left hand side and then trap the guys gunning it up there.

Yeah. The perspective in oom Ben's pic doesn't really tell us how steep it is. But I do think there are worse hills in Alberton.

Ja, I've heard of that one. I am one of those riders who measures the effort versus reward ratio before deciding to start an ascent and I've not concluded that the effort will sufficiently be rewarded. I am thinking of a trip to Rhebokskloof again sometime soon too but this one has not grabbed my fancy yet

They changed the direction a couple of months ago. They take you down this section now but be careful as not everybody aware of the change. Not quite sure how they take you up now but we drop down then hook across Spice Route, Fairview, Diamant into Coleraigne (Specialised Store). IMO definitely great reward for effort. Don't forget the day rate is R100 unless you have an annual board. Happy to show anybody around once I get the chance to replace my cassette.

Worse is dependent on each person’s individual ability on the hills. Vorrtrekker is easier as it’s a punchy hill. 5th Avenue is not my kind of hill.

I looked on Trailforks after posting and saw that. Thank goodness!

That climb almost made me quit cycling.

Compared with the other trails in the Winelands network, Spice Route just isn't worth a visit IMO.
