Nowhere

Since my tyre change in October I'm used to having to topup the rear randomly every few days, so its habbit to feel the pressure as I take the bike out the garage in the morning. This morning instead of being slightly under inflated it was completely flat.

Inspected for any obvious leaks, then inflated to my normal 80psi and heard air escaping.

Closer inspection saw some sealant coming out from the bead, and then I felt air coming out a breather hole in the side of the rim. Air should not be getting there. Hopefully its just the rim tape and not a crack.

So I packed the bike away and climbed back into bed

I just repaired a wheel this morning for a friend with this exact problem. Be sure to check your valve too. His rubber valve seal had delaminated from the valve body so air was just escaping into the rim cavity and coming out the drain hole. I did rim tape too but this was just to avoid troubleshooting later.

It’s between the rim tape and the valve that is the problem. I’m leaning towards the valve, but have also bought new rim tape too. (Plus a bunch of other things I did not need but have wanted for a while)

I had a similar problem. The tyre would loose air and get worse over time. I found that when the tyre looses air, the bead pushes the rim tape back. This was the cause of my leak. I retaped the rim, inserted a tube, rode a couple of weeks and then went tubeless. No problems since.

Rim tape in the wheel was an abomination. Was done by cycle lab after Octobers CTCT.
folded in places, sticking to the tyre in other places and just down right a mess.

inserted new rim tape, cleaned everything up, put a different valve in and pumped it up at the garage.
will see what it’s like in the morning.

Hi, do you mind sharing the Strava route? I'm looking for gravel routes in the South and East Rand.
