tombeej Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I did the Ladysmith Cycle Challenge on Sunday (100km road race). Never cycled in that part of the world before and was very glad I made the trip. You race along sublime blemish-free blacktop until you get to the base of the Drakensberg… and then go straight up via De Beers Pass (the next one along from Van Reenens). Just 10 cars an hour on a peach of a road that runs through some seriously beautiful countryside. We went up by car the day before to take photos and the only other time I’ve heard such absolute silence has been in the Karoo. This road really is the ultimate road riding experience.
