Why is there so much hate is a little strong word, dislike towards the top placing women.

I'm not in the top/fast bunches so just trying to understand. If there's a big group and she is able to hang on, to me that's well done.

I know unless I'm holding on to a vehicle I'm not going to be able to stay at that speed.

I get they don't work in front but they are so small it's not like they are going to be blocking much wind anyway.

Hate is a strong word, it more about the principal of competition.

U17, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89-year old women Fastest rider in each of these age categories from any start group in the 109km event

So according to the verbage further down these groups are no longer eligible for prizes and its reall just bragging rights.

"What’s new for 2025?

Prizegiving: All prizes will be awarded on race day at the event, unlike previous years. See below for more details. Women's 40-44 and 45-49 age categories: These will now be awarded to the first finisher in these age categories in the women's elite race (78km) and not the 109km event. "

So yeah, its just a bragging rights thing and therefore no foul committed. Thanks for pointing me in this direction @Skubarra

You and @Mamil need to get your stories straight .... 😋

All I'm saying is that if @ChrisFcame past me as I heaved my corpse over the top of Smits with the tail of the group already halfway down the drag, and offered me a wheel going at 50kmph I would not have said "no, I'll never live it down on bikehub and my conscience won't let me". I would have said "yes please and thank you" and maxed the engine to keep up and I might have come a shade closer to my sub3.

I would also have repressed the memory thereby expunging any guilt and enjoyed my achievement.

So It's not ok for a lady to get a sub 3 with the help of her male friends but it's more than ok to drop back a few groups and help your other male mates get a faster time and better seeding?

The cross thread contradictions on this site are baffling

Would it be ok for a lady to help a male friend get a sub 3? 🤔

I don't think it has anything to do with gender. I think the issue is when people "claim" a win (in their category) when they are assisted. If they weren't assisted, they wouldn't "win" and therefore this wouldn't be a discussion.

So, can the guys who were assisted by their faster mates in other races claim the sub3 they wouldn't have if their friends hadn't beaten 'the system' to get them their seeding?

That seems to be supported in the other thread by some of the same people disagreeing with the lady.

She won nothing. She was the fastest female in the non racing category. There were many other females in the non racing category in the 1s surrounded by men.

It's a non event

I said something last year about crying over seeding that wasn’t received well and I apologized as well.. I was wrong and it did not equate to people getting upset because of EGO like I had assumed but because they want their hard work and dedication recognized come race day and get the advantages that come with that.. 🤘🏻🥳👍🏻 The further down the cycling rabbit hole I go the more it makes sense and I still realize how wrong I was to this day..

the bellow is a late comment but I can’t help myself most of the time so whatever.! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

no lady, you don’t get to buy what we are working so hard to experience unfortunately..

🤘🏻😘👍🏻

If @ChrisF came past me and offered help, let's just say I had a extra rope with me which would have been used 😂

I disagree with this practice too. It messes up the seeding. Skews the results. Why not just scrap the seeding and go back to mass start events.

80 to 90% of riders, male and female don't put their nose in the wind at all so not sure why the strong feelings towards a couple of the females. They still got to the top of Edinburgh and Smits and Chappies and Suikers with the group.

I thought of this perspective a well and said to self, "ah it levels out" but then I was watching Casino Royale and a different perspective hit me...

anyone can walk into a casino and play black jack, or poker or whatever gambling gam is on offer. Those people naturally gravitate to a table were there is no obvious winner. They perceive equal opportunity. Now someone walks into the casino with a card counter person and starts cleaning up. Not equal opportunity in that scenario.

person turns up at a bike race and throws her lot in with the riders present, takes her chances rides her race, drafts other men and women.

another person turn ups at a similar bike race with a dedicated pacer (aka card counter) and cleans up,..... not equal opportunity.

hmmmmm😒

The argument could be “it’s not my problem you can’t find a dedicated pacer”

as we heard the tantrum earlier, “let me buy what you experience.!” just like those other poor souls losing at the tables who wish so badly to experience great wins simply don’t know a card counter or all bets are on them hanging out a lot together🤣🤣.. card counters are extremely rare from what I believe.. finding a slightly stronger cyclist to latch onto maybe isn’t so rare🤔

*think my point is it always comes back to who has the most resources.. the top teams in the world are the most supported, financially or otherwise..

25000 people pushing for place, the first couple of km's would look like a battlefield with bodies and parts scattered everywhere.
