Awesome morning out, weather was perfect. Loads of "gees" along the way. Met so many awesome people along they way, stunning views and a lekker ride 👌🏻

And then welcome to road racing, watch out for potholes and a$$holes.

People getting upset because they nearly take you out with a disabled child, after you warn them multiple times.

One rider took out another, it was the hardest I've ever seen someone go down and the one who caused it just sped off. 🤬

But luckily it's point something of a percentage of the people who think they are special.

Had a horrible day in the saddle despite the great weather. Stopped at the water point before the turn off to Misty Cliffs. I was super nauseous and had a mild head ache. Got some Coke and I started feeling better for a while then it returned. Really had to dig in deep to finish my 11th. Just over 5 and a half hours. My usual time is around 4h30 with a 4h12 PB.

I think the age thing is catching up on me.

Also the first one I did with my wife from start to finish.

On the slower end of the field - finished my 12th in PB of 4:26. Really pushed from top of Chappies to get under 4:30 for the first time.

Last time out was in 2019, and missed a bit of the gees and the special characters. Also got totally disheartened by e-bikes changing their batteries at the station at the foot of Chappies, and then zipping up on the fresh juice…

Great weather, and congrats to all that finished!

3rd Tour for me (officially 2nd - since I had to take my board off the bike last year after catching a lift to the nearest mechanic following a fall and derailleur hanger going toast).

Was aiming for sub 4 (previous best was >4h33 on mtb), started in 4A with the intention of riding with Team Vitality (Sub4:30 pacing group) but started on the wrong side of the shoot so I started before them and lost time waiting for the group. I got towed until Smits where I went up solo but couldn't find a nice group to work with, so kinda did my own thing until Chappies were I followed "David's wheel" (some very strong guy that had me on my knees trying to hold his wheel) up the Climb and also up Suikerbossie where I PB'd both climbs.

Came in at 4:03, could've been faster if I didn't wait for the Vitality train at the start. Good vibes and epic weather, and the Gees was on as always. Oh and the Polar ice cream at the end was nice 🙂

Just a minor moan, flippen beer tent that only sells beer from 11h00. As if I am going to hang around for an hour and a half to buy my first beer after the race, then I'll just go drink my beer somewhere else 😝

What great weather we had today, PBs all around, hard to beat a day like today on the bike.

3:00:34… Guess who’s not sleeping tonight?

All went according to plan for my first Sub 3, but started cramping on the last 50 metres of Suikerbossie and had to get off the bike for a minute or two. Lost my group and had to solo for a long stretch.

Big effort on a 1X gravel bike with gravel tyres and a 40T chainring.

Great meeting some friendly guys in 1B.
