What I want to know is where were all these low seeded elites and unrestricted ebikes and other ne'er-do-wells when I needed a tow past Cape Point to Misty cliffs? - even a tandem would have been lekker.

Nothing, ... nada .... just me and skinny 1B rider who couldn't do a turn and wouldn't have offered much of a draft he had been able to.

Nee magtig man .... I even had a big PINK flag waving at the back for you to hold onto  .... not my fault you could not hold on ....

that like me between fish hoek and simons town. Nobody in site front or rear, I had to remind myself I was doing "The August" because there was no sign that it was a race day.

I'm used to starting further back, where you are either passing someone, or someone is passing you or both.

THAT is the problem when seeding works .... you are too fast for the riders at the back to catch you, and if the elastic snaps it is one lonely race ....

Watching the tandem video it was interesting to see the very large groups on Smitswinkel, Chappies and Suikerbossie .... and the lines thinning out quickly inbetween ...

I saw Linus en-route (same start group). Had 34 (or 35, I can't remember) previously completed tours (it was on his race number). Insane!

And with something like 30 or 31 sub 3 hours!

Edit: 31 sub 3 tours for oom Biltong!

And all three Onselen generations got sub 3 this year. Well done to them!

Still think that the short route should be on Saturday from Town to Hout bay circle and back. All those that travel in could have a nice safe leg loosener, the eBike gang can do a Sub 1 hour, families can ride together, its actually a nice route, both sides of sugar bush is a great climb. Those in Llandudno can just use their helicopters on Saturday and Sunday. Keep all the cyclists away from cars for the weekend. Can even boost the money raised for charity.

I think that was the plan from the organisers initially? But City & Province didn't come to the party, logistically too big an ask to shut down the city traffic 2 days in a row + having half the province ambulances occupied in the city for 2 days etc.

Why is there so much hate is a little strong word, dislike towards the top placing women.

I'm not in the top/fast bunches so just trying to understand. If there's a big group and she is able to hang on, to me that's well done.

I know unless I'm holding on to a vehicle I'm not going to be able to stay at that speed.

I get they don't work in front but they are so small it's not like they are going to be blocking much wind anyway.

I think the "hate" is more directed towards the lady in 1D who had dedicated help in getting to the fastest time.

That said, there are no prizes for being the fastest lady on the long route, only bragging rights. The actual prizes go to the ladies in the 78km race, so I have no issue with someone getting helped, (as long as there are no e-bikes involved 🙃)

I could be remembering wrong, but in the past when the elite ladies did the full distance there would be ladies riding in the fast open bunches getting faster times, which led to some questions about who was the rightful winner of the ladies.

No issues with those that keep up with the fast groups and get a good time, whether they work or not. As long as there aren't e-bikes and/or physical pushing/towing to get that time.

(the closest I got to the front of @ was being able to actually see that there was a separate race going on there, riders attacking off the front etc. I would have needed to "attack" just to get to the front, nevermind actually contributing to the pace).
