I see you can also set the tag for any movement or set a perimeter around the item. Good to have if bikes are in the garage and you in the house it will alert you if it moves outside the perimeter you set.

Can someone pin drop this on a map for everyone to know exactly where it is? New in CPT, and I think I know the area you all are referring to, but want to make 100% sure.

Anything and everything between Marine drive bridge, Lower church bridge and a few 100m past lower church. Basically the whole stretch of road next to PRASA land on the “N1”/FW de Klerk Blvd

Do this section all the time. First time that I read this is now also a hotspot although I have always been gunning it on that section for the obvious.. Stopped riding on the cycle path a few years ago for the exact same reason.

Blame shifting self boasting leaders and the term Shi+hole country that has zero moral values comes to mind as the only logical explanation. The oxygen inside the already very limited freedom bubble is now nearly exhausted.

Carbon copy a week later - got a flat there and a guy walked up said hi and showed me a gun.

3 more from behind almost immidiatly took eveything I had, tried to take my bike but failed due to the flat.

SAPS did not care - we showed the live location to them 3- minutes later, they were too scared to go look.

The problem is that for all the warnings there is no viable altenative to get across the railway and N1.

however = despite being a very big bloke I was totally compliant no aggression or fighting. they got everything but I walked away

I am having a hard time understanding why people are still cycling there. You KNOW that the odds of you making it through unscathed are heavily against you, but still people still ride there. The mind boggles, and I almost want to say that in such cases sympathy is unwarranted. Stupidity should not be praised, but rather called out.

As much as the sentiment of "doing something about it" is appropriate, the reality is that if the designated law enforcement parties are unable to manage it then what makes people think it is their entitled right to ride there, so they will?

I just don't get it. I used to ride my mountain bike past Dunoon on my way to the Tygerberg trails and back again on the way home every weekend before Covid, but then the explosion of informal shacks up to the road I was riding in made that an unviable option. So now I drive to the trails whenever I want to ride. I can still decide to claim my entitlement and ride past there, but I am almost guaranteed of throwing a thumb to get back home again after I am relieved of my bike, phone and whatever else I may be carrying. Should I just say "screw it" and ride anyway, or should I apply wisdom and not go anymore? I choose the latter. Sadly, this thread is making me think lots of folks still choose the former.

Because there is no option to get across the N1 and railway.

You clearly don't know the area if you say that

Please make sure to send an email to liz@pedalpower.org.za. with the SAPS case number and a clear explanation of what transpired.

Sorry to hear about this

What time was this?
i assume you too were coming from Tableview side?
Have there been reports on issues for those coming from town via N1 going to the southern suburbs or vice versa?

or is it just from the paarden eiland

I do know the area. And I'm aware that alternatives don't really exist. That then makes the argument that cycling to town is a foolish endeavour. I mean, ride it if you insist, but crying about being robbed is pointless. I know I sound unsympathetic, but it seems that people are taking unnecessary risk when they really ought to know better.
