I did send a mail to his office, and this is the reply I got from one of his aides.

Good day,

I will be out of the office from 29 November 2024 to 16 December 2024. I will respond to your email when I return.

Kind regards,

Daniël Eloff
Principal Legal Advisor

Office of the Executive Mayor

I dont live in Cape Town anymore but am following the 2 threads on this out of sympathy for fellow cyclists.

i also follow the Cape Town Mayor on Instagram and am always impressed with his hand on on the ground approach to problems so am surprised that nothing is happening?
What about approaching his office directly ?

They will tell you that they are doing something about it... like stationing law enforcement officers on the bridge (there were two standing there yesterday morning when I drove over the bridge at about 8:30am).... but you know they can't do anything at shift change times or outside of business hours 🤷‍♂️

It's a bit of window dressing but absolutely nothing strategic or permanent about finding a solution to a serious problem. The criminals just sit and watch and wait for their time to carry on as usual. It's an insult really😤

This morning shortly before 6am I was attacked on the Woodstock bridge,  I have very little recollection of the incident other than seeing a guy running towards me seemingly brandishing a knife, and the next moment waking bleeding in the middle of the road.   Fortunately all they took was my phone from my jersey pocket.

To the three cyclists who stopped and helped me get to hospital, I will be eternally grateful.

Riding around the peninsula on a Sunday morning used to be favourite Sunday excursion.  I guess I will have to find another route now

Sorry man, were you with Gareth or is this a separate incident ? Hope you're healing alright both physically and mentally.

so there's now several attacks per day, with the same group being attacked twice, both ways. How can the city/saps hide behind the fact that's there's shifts ? Is it so hard to put two cops in lycra and send them to do that route every day and catch these ******* in the act ?

As a pedestrian, I once got held up at knifepoint near town hall. We stayed in obz back then and on my way home stopped at woodstock police station to report the crime. I was told to go away because it happened outside their jurisdiction…..

my wife once got in a fenderbender with a foreign uber driver. He drove into the back of her. CT metro cop was the most helpful person you could want on the scene. Go to city police station….first thing the arrogant twat behind the counter asks me os where it happened as they first need to work out if its their problem. The metro cop told us to go to city. I told the guy the metro cop on scene pointed me there. He proceeds to tell me ‘they dont listen to WC metro police’ and even though i told him the address, he made me show him on google maps where the accident happened.

tells you what you need to know about the bunch working at police stations in my opinion. Don't expect them to do anything imo. They are likely still trying to figure out on google maps if maitland, woodstock or milnerton SAPS should care, although we all know it’s woodstock. If this is their approach to ‘protect and serve’ - as in when and how it suits them…dont expect much.

its questionable how some of them make it past the physical to become an officer. Never mind their questionable ethics. Its just a 9-5 to them. No higher calling here.

I’ve been biting my tongue on this but here we go 🫣.

As a KZN resident there are lots of areas where people have rightly given up on SAPS and politicians as they get nothing done.

In the case of residential theft, bike parks, UIPs, even some high profile murders - specialist private security firms have been used to great effect.

Cases are solved, perpetrators arrested (rumours about a few repeat murderers “disappearing” with rural community involvement) and there do not seem to be many similar patently ridiculous situations like there is at the area in this thread.

The quickest way to solve it short term (long term, the challenges that Cape Town will face with massive population influx are just starting I fear), is to get a business to sponsor or all of you affected riders to pay for a private security firm, with guns, to stand off at this area and hopefully catch (or worse…) a few of these bastards.

You cannot, with respect, wait for a politician who is on holiday, or ANOTHER petition, or a protest ride to achieve something NOW.

Don’t take it personally but even Cape Town is still Africa and you will see that the vast majority of successful suburbs, business communities and small towns in the great wasteland outside of the Western Cape, have done things themselves.

Someone will get killed this holiday in that area if people don’t come together and fix the problem (hopefully short term), themselves.

Do you mind posting a high resolution photo of the permit, front & back, I just want to show "a friend" that works in a printing shop what it looks like 👀😝

Unfortunately the card is chipped. You need to swipe them on a scanner for the gate to open.

Avoid the area... that's going to stop those guys from being criminals?  No they will just move somewhere else and create a new "hotspot"🙄🤬

Just a thought.  Would PPA start a collection in order to pay a private security company to go and get these mother suckers (I would prefer they get moered then arrested) They would know or can let us know what the options or outcome could possibly be. I don't mind donating to such a cause.
