This picture says a lot.

Condolences to his family and friends.

What a horrible slap of reality for us cyclists. Infuriating, immense sadness and trepidation.

It does indeed. Driver is being held and will appear in court tomorrow on charges of culpable homicide.

will he rot in jail? Maybe let’s hope but I suspect a cadre will get sprung

Just too tragic, RIP Idries and condolences to his loved ones.

I've been trying for weeks to get the City to cut back the bush before boulders beach forcing the cyclists and runners into the road, despite marking it urgent they are just passing it around internally. Anyone else want to report it, please do as it will help move them to action.

I almost got taken out on Sunday turning right on a green arrow opposite the Camps Bay PnPay had to lock up the brakes, cyclist nearly landed on my old Land Rover bonnet as he went through the red light at speed.

He sure as hell should rot in Jail. We see this year on year. I was on the scene and could barely make it home.

RIP fellow Rider and Hubber!

The entire Atlantic seaboard section from Bakoven to the Lighthouse is simply too congested for runners, walkers, cyclists, parked cars and moving cars, buses, scooters and motorcycles.

While I generally concur, today was one of the few mornings that I actually didn't feel overwhelmed by the numbers of road users ...7h30 on a public holiday and it was still relatively quiet.

Passed the scene and even looking at the pic posted, I still can't work out what happened. (I do suspect speculation will likely be spot on.!)

All very tragic and so unnecessary.

RIP fellow cyclist. 😥

I always look forward to having some time to ride during the holiday period but the bike may again be standing until mid Jan after this reminder of festive revelling.

Couple of months ago at about 7:30 in the morning we were cycling along the PE beachfront and a drunk driver lost control of his car, went across the road and killed a guy walking his dog on the pavement.

His mother's anguished crying is something that I will never forget. The driver could barely stand on his feet. The local DA ward councilor on his FB page said he would write a letter to the metro police chief........

The driver came across the middle line and hit Idries head on and then came to a stop on the pavement.

He made some excuse about "another car", which is obviously bull****, because if you're not speeding and intoxicated, that is a situation millions of drivers successfully negotiate every day.

I will call it in, esp. since I commute past that very bush.

I did once call in even-worse bush ‘jutting out massively’ on Ou Kaapse Weg, as did one or 2 other Hubbers, and a week or 10 day later some brush cutting well into yellow line space did occur, so maybe there is hope…

The good news is Pedal Power have agreed to take this over and deal with it. Thank you to -The Table Mountain Bikers , on behalf of the cycling community, is supporting an urgent initiative to ensure independent legal oversight of this matter from start to finish. We will appoint an independent attorney to monitor the investigation and court process, ensure witness statements are properly taken and preserved (including duplication where appropriate), and prevent any abuse of power -from using money, influence, or intimidation to evade justice.

We demand full accountability and meaningful, long-term jail sentences for those responsible. These matters must move through the judicial system without delay or interference and with consequences that match the gravity of what has been done- nothing less than “murder”!!  Enough is enough: our cycling community (MTB /Road) cannot keep burying friends while perpetrators walk

We are seriously concerned there may be attempts to undermine, delay, or dilute the charges. We must ensure that anyone who injures or kills a cyclist faces full consequences through the judicial system with, no intimidation, and no financial influence.

(Only WhatsApp for refunds. Please do not call unless absolutely necessary: +27 83 631 9796)
