On the subject of a few pints after sport.
played my first ever padel game the other day ( I’m ashamed to admit it).
before the game was even up, a waiter from the club house approached and was pushing beers and tequilas. Encouraging us with specials.
the group I was with, even though they are big drinkers, were fortunately not enticed, but it did not stop the waiter for continuing to try.
granted his job is to push the stuff and he’ll get a bigger tip, but that it was socially acceptable to do so is a problem.

In other countries they guys would be drinking BUT they would go by Uber or taxi.

I don’t profess to have a solution but I have seen this scenario played out numerous times on the hub. Everyone moans and everyone laments. But very little lobbying ( none) is done because that takes work and effort.

if you seriously want to prevent future incidences , get out there and lobby politicians, cycling organisations, target bike shops ,legal system, schools etc etc. pissing vinegar and acid on the hub ain’t going to fix a damn thing.

Real question - HOW ?

1. The Premiere and the Mayor ... always ready for a photo opp .... always ready to lobby for votes ..... as self proclaimed cyclists, with all the connections .... WHAT have they achieved to improve cycling safety ?

2.  CSA ... I am a paid member for a few years already .... they are SILENT ....

3. PPA .... not sure what it is they actually do .... I hear more about their cycling events than their efforts to improve cycling safety .... granted, they do regularly post on FB..... informing us to avoid hotspots .... now if they spent as much energy into getting Cloetesville R44 and the Paardenisland sections properly policed .....  okay okay, at least they try something.

Thus my question ... if those in power and the official organisations are not getting anything done .... what can individuals do ?

Or walk or bike. If too inebriated to function for either of those then recovering in the local jail cell was often remedy

Bring back the death sentence, been saying it since 19voetsek.

Eye for eye…stone the b a s t i d s, kill them dead

Maybe the cycling public could start a fund to put a contract on these killers once they are in jail….

Can you imagine

Terrible news. This incident has affected me mentally as well. I rode this morning for the first time in fear. Every vehicle coming past made me nervous....

May the Almighty protect all the cyclists on the road from any calamity like this.

I completely understand how you feel.stay strong

The stars own the narrative. They hide behind the weak achievement of the 1m bylaw that no motorist knows exists because it is only communicated to cyclists. Why not motorists? The PaPA says it’s because their staff and volunteers are abused by motorists when they hand the pamphlets to them.

there has never been a tv tutorial on this rule. Too expensive says PPA while at sitting on millions in the bank

ya well no ya

now imagine a world where a mayor and premier could be bothered to use their many platforms to promote such critical life safety rules.

heck, imagine a world with a national cycling assocoation ... with all the communication channels available to official national associations ....

Heaven forbid, radical thought .... what about a minister for sport .... somebody that could be bothered to address the senseless deaths of athletes .....

sorry, maybe I expect too much .....
