Heard of 2 attempted muggings this morning, under the bridge, heading away from town.

attempted?

so the riders got away? assuming the same brick throwing technique was used?
...fark man if i was just recovering from flu and the little bit of rain that braced us this morning i would rode that section, although over the bridge to woodstock and not under

yes, 2 different riders but both managed to slip through. sounds like they just tried to pull them from their bikes

ok... i added the suspicious activity on the buzzer app... I've also let someone in CoCT know and asked them to let the relevant people know...

while its just attempted bikejacking/robberies could you please let them know to report it.

@Hairy can you tweet your folks on X

@Meezo, do you know at what time the incident occurred? Planning to head that way on Friday.

Traffic out of town is quite busy after 07h and cars merging with the N1 over there are reasonably accommodating. Crap that this is now another risky spot and with no yellow line, very little room to manoeuvre.

A group 10 of us got swarmed by about 20 skollies on Strand St on Sunday morning, around 5:30. 2 phones nicked out of jersey pockets, but otherwise no damage, loss or injury.

Keep your eyes open in that part of town. Numbers are clearly not a deterrent.

I reckon we organise a Bikehub group ride and take these assholes out once and for all. I am so sick of reading about this year after year. How on earth the police/law enforcement are unable to do anything about it is ridiculous. 😡

There's "patrols" for like a week max, when **** gets really bad (why does it even take a bad incident for them to do their job) and then it's back to the wild west for months (years) on end.

Is this Strand St by Bo Kaap?

I fully agree with you that something must be done. But escalating things might not be the best option. It may end up with a cycling vigilante being on the wrong side of the law.

It's a crummy predicament, as the law seems to be doing nothing.

Alan Winde always carries on about making Cape Town a "cycling city" - be it for commuting or cycling along our coastline etc. - what are they doing about the escalation of these incidents?

We approach the cycle tour with heightened awareness of the sport - would love to have him and perhaps Bellairs come out and share what their plan is..

This is just ridiculous!

Between the station and the bus terminus.

Weirdly enough we saw him later in the day on the campaign trail and let him know about it - so he is aware of it first hand. He said a few things I'm already aware of about conflict between national and provincial govt on the homelessness and land invasion issues, but they are slowly making progress.

When we went to report it on Monday the sergeant I spoke to said they're using the reported incidents to motivate for removing the squatters, so we'll see how it goes. Sadly it's unlikely to solve the problem, just move it somewhere else.

There's no good answer to this

Reform , housing , jobs will cause nothing people are lazy and criminals are criminals

Sterilizing the drinking water is too inhumane , vigilantes will end up in prison while the real criminals escort them there

No good answerer solution :(

how do you suggest we do this? dress in camo lycra and skop, skiet and donner everyone on our way to get lattes in Noordhoek?

Exactly.

Or we just accept it and stop cycling where we should be able to.

The shoes are the biggest problem. It's hard to look like you mean business wearing disco slippers.
