It’s not about being a wannabe hero.. why am I being referred to as a hero(in a belittling manner) for looking after myself.? And my wife when needed..

We live in a horrible world, why is it frowned apon to take your own security apon yourself.? No one else is going to..

All right. Two young girls in their early twenties arrive in a small SUV with two bikes on a rack. It's their first race and just from sitting in the traffic they are  totally out of their comfort zone.

Enter five louts with dirty security bibs.

Your turn . How do they handle this?

  2. Japie , I have gone through this thread post by post. It's a slow day at work. The replies you got were dead standard for the type of thread you created. I am still trying to see where you were so badly humiliated or bullied. You give your thread a very controversial title. The Monster DID NOT DELIVER, on a day when guys are going to the office thinking, "Well I knocked that bastard off". And when you choose to mention that you did Sani as well. What were you expecting? Of course people who like this type of event will start to compare and defend .

A few posters showed sympathy after YOU told them you were bullied , beaten and insulted. But I don't think you were.

     Sorry, I have to add , 3 times on a 26 hardtail.

Edit: I see you mention insults about language. Here I would agree with you.

Weer ñ edit: Na aanleiding van Robbie se post. Dinge hol nou en dan weg. Ek dink nie jy of iemand het slegte bedoelings nie. Nou en dan kom goed anders oor as wat 'n ou bedoel. Gaan jou goed.

  3. A year ago I paid 40k for a 2019 dual sus in absolute mint condition. This after browsing the classifieds daily. I thought it was a little high , but it was the right bike at the right time.

The exact same model was advertised here a week ago for 27 k. I looked at bikes daily for over a year and in the range 25 to 45 k I think the prices have come down.

My 2 cents worth whichever web development company did the Cape Epic website and its results search engine needs to be shot. Its a very amateur job and totally useless to search and track people on. Not sure what has happened but previous years were much better.

I thought it was only my poor skills. I can't seem to come right with results . That also worked much better last year. I now wait for "It was another tough day but we did it" on Strava.

  5. The same problem is in the back of my head all the time. The thing is if you're on a bike you can have a bad fall at very low speed and on a good road. I've been on a MTB for 11 years. Aug 2021 I fell on a trail, a level piece at 5 km/ h 'testing' my front brake after a service. The handle bar popped two ribs.

Fast forward one year. Same trails I'm following some guys on new red section, against my better judgement. Rocky , one hop too many, three ribs gone .

    I was 64 then .

I will not stop riding but I am trying to be more aware and avoid really tech stuff. A skills course may also be on the cards.

I just confirmed. No. And this is from someone on the board. Maybe the camping place has a camp with electric fence you can ride in. He used to cycle aswell

Thanks for the reply. I phoned the campsite . I've taken note. I'm seeing someone today who has camped there before. Will see what he says. If I can't that's it.

  7. Hallo hubbers. We are camping in Dinokeng mid Feb just for a weekend. First time. I phoned and were told that you can ride in the area. There is nothing that will eat you.

So the question is ,how is the riding  there ? Is it worth taking the MTB for one maybe two rides. Or something just outside close by. Dirt rds etc. Possible to put in two hours or so ?

  8. From the map. Kleinbrak tar over river past the Botliers turnoff. Keep on tar. It veers right and becomes gravel. Donaldshoogte on map. Keep going 8 or 9 kms.  Turn right . There are two turnoffs close to each other. It's the first one. (If you pass a yellow farm house with a green roof on left , you've missed the turnoff)

The Big Dipper. Take care. Over the Beneke River and a lekker uphill. T junction at the lodge turn right. Klein Sorgfontein . On the map it shows a turnoff to Botliers. It's closed. A downhill and a few steep climbs. Game farm either side.  T junction . Turn right onto tar. First right tar past Reebokstene. Downhill. Just before the highway bridge there's a dirt road crossing . Go right past the sewerage farm . 4km or so you are back in Kleinbrak.

Shorter version . Past Botliers .Keep left . Dirt road to Brandwag . R 328 back to Hartenbos. Traffic.

Or.....Left turn at the T on top of Big Dipper go to Friemersheim. First circle where tar starts left. Pinehaven loop. A very steep climb. Eventually brings you back into Friemersheim.

Sorry for the long description. Hope can do something with it.

actually you have met such a person, me.

fortunately after nearly stabbing a classmate with a screw driver in high school I realised I need to find ways to control my temper and since then have at the most resorted to extremely foul language.

When there are daemons inside you (figuratively) there can be a series of triggers culminating in you loosing all moral sense. This is one of the main reasons I dont own a firearm, I dont trust myself.

It does not excuse this guy, he is an adult, and by the sounds of things OP tried to defuse the situation. By his actions it also sounds to me that this is not the first time he has done something like this. He should get whatever is coming to him.

Hi Ouzo this is not pop psychology. May be worth looking at.

And a few dozen other topics that I find fascinating. I now listen to this bloke on my way to work instead of Escom and politics.

There's one on the use of alcohol that was worth listening to. He is a doctor of neurobiology with an interest in many subjects . Focus, increasing performance,, supplements ,training (mostly gymwork), stretching it's all there.

Sorry I'm not trying to sound like a know all or dish out random advice.

Seeding is not difficult; it’s a rank from 1-99999 based on the participant’s time relative to the winner’s time. So they simply rank last year’s results in that order.

Split out those with a licence from the alphabet groups and then seed and place everyone as per the ranking.

Trust me to take the more difficult route. I just wonder how they got it so wrong.

  11. Speaking to a few friends. The seeding seems to be very mixed up. I think they have almost no data.

There are no groups in the results from last year. I would look at last year's results for a start. Adjust riders up or down from their group, or keep them in the group they started in . Then you put the first timers in place . And then deal with the riders that are fitter than last year asking for reseeding.

Riders of all abilities in all groups. Eish.

Spinnie is the only oke seeded correctly.

Last year I was seeded in AA. finished on a single speed with a time of 3H55m

    This year seeded Batch C

I did 3.21 from F last year. I am now seeded in R. I am expecting to do about the same time this year.

    Something is not lekker.

  13. In my youth I was a rep with a tape and samples and I measured buildings for flooring. You would arrive at the site office.

Foreman thats been on site for two years : " Ok , so blue in the staff toilets first and second floor safes. Light brown supervisors office and chemical store. There you go." Rolls up the drawings.

Same thing at the trails. The owner/ trailbuilder knows the trails so well he can ride them with his eyes closed. And  assumes that the riders will know that this tiny board , planted at an angle at a crossing means you go there , not there Domkop.
