    Hi,

Any recommendations for mounting a bike on a wall?

Looking to mount bikes on a wall in an apartment to increase space, and seeing a myriad of things on offer. Would help to hear advice or success stories please!

Anyone ever used Wille Honde Wall Mount Bracket? Seems to have good reviews online.

    Thanks,

    Jenette

We have 5 of the Wille Honde wall mount brackets, and love them. The keep the bikes relatively out of the way when living in an apartment or when you have limited space in the garage (both of which we have). Would definitely recommend, easy to install and to use.

I did not like this e-bike thing

E-bike should start first and get out the way, not very funny when they come pass you close on a hill doing double your speed and close enough to feel their wind.

It has "unfortunately" given way too much speed to people who dont normally ride and hence has no idea on some road riding "unwritten rules"

I am for e-bikes giving more people access to the  CTCT but darn, can they just educate themselfs a tiny bit on overtaking not come past so close.

I'm also not a fan of the ebikes. There were the only blemish on what otherwise was a beautiful day out on the bike.

Coming up Smitswinkel, there was a very unmannered guy on an ebike (I was about to say gentleman, but his behaviour was anything other than gentlemanly.) He was shouting at anyone getting in his way as he was trying to pass the non-motorised cyclists on the uphill.

I'm not sure how they should be managed. Maybe once the CTCT has a separate 47km race, they can also look at separating out the ebikers to leave us to suffer on our own legpower on the hills without having middle aged man with a lekker vet boep and an attitude flying past.

  3. Any suggestions where to donate old cycling apparel in Cape Town Northern suburbs ?

See in older posts (2017) Specialized store or CWC suggested.

    This still the case ?

2 helmets, 2 pair road shoes (size 45/46) and 1 pair mtb shoe (45) etc....

    Please advise.

I donated a few things about 3-4 weeks ago. Dropped them off with Revolution Cycles in Bree Street, they have a box in the corner for all cycling related donations.

  4. Last time that I had access to a scale was last Tuesday, so I'll just log that weight for now. I'll get back to being able to weigh from tomorrow, so there might be an update. My weightloss has definitely not been linear, so I'll see whether it's a good or a bad surprise  :blush:post-30678-0-18400900-1596446197_thumb.png

(The big spike in weight was last year September, when I spent a month travelling, including about 10 days in Italy with all the pizza and gelato. I definitely packed on a few kilos while there)

  5. This month has been filled with ups and downs. My weeks have alternated with days where I am motivated to exercise and eat well and ones where I honestly could give a rat's ass about any of it and proceed to be my couch's best friend and stuff my face with all things yummy.

Forgot to weigh this morning, might be that I know I'll be up because pizza is life and I've enjoyed too many treats this month, added to the laziness in the morning has overridden the desire to get up and exercise.

  6. So One Day Only just flat out lying to make the offer look better...

That is pretty standard practice from them, I always double check their prices.

But to be fair, the jacket is listed on the Ciovita site directly as R1899...

Hi there, why not give the JaSure on-demand insurance app a try. JaSure gives you the flexibility to switch your cover on and off, or leave your cover on, depending on your cover needs.

You could load all 3 of your bikes on the app and only switch on cover when you need it. For a quick quote, visit https://quotes.jasure.com. Please don’t hesitate to email us at help@jasure.com, or start a live chat at https://www.jasure.com or on the app.

This is very quickly getting old, just getting the same sales pitch as response to different people talking about bike insurance.

We get it. No need to flog a dead horse. 7 posts in a 25 post thread basically saying the same thing... no need to give the same sales pitch again and again and again (and again).

It is actually this type of behaviour which will ensure that I will not be heading over to your site.

  8. What is with the messages here that says trails are open? There was an email that says all trails are closed....

Having said that, is majik, the climb to the beacon and the trails between Bloemendal and VanRiebeecksHof / OudeWesthof open? As far as I know those areas are public spaces and we can ride there? You wont be going through any TBMTB gates on those trails

Those messages are also dated 20 March, so pre-lockdown. Trails are still closed.

  9. Lol yeah my youngest will help..the eldest will just do a half job[emoji2356]

The instant pot is just easier..takes the whole knead part out and it rises in there as well..easier than moving the dough around from sunny spot to sunny spot[emoji1787]

No need to move the dough from sunny spot to sunny spot. just wrap in electric blanket and turn it on low  ^_^

  10. Slight drop in weight this month, so whoop whoop!

This right at the time where I have been travelling a lot, with 9 days in Johannesburg and Ethiopia, and another 3 days in Zambia, giving me very little time at home in the last 3 weeks to manage my own shopping and cooking.

It's been an interesting 4 weeks though, with our gym's 8 week challenge going. Overall it has massively helped me in making better nutritional choices than I normally would while on the road. I am also used to having a weight-loss challenge where the main aim is to just lose as much weight as possible within a given time. I am very much appreciating (and sometimes find it frustrating) that they are putting emphasis on a more long-term holistic approach to health.

  11. I had the same happen to me last week doing an early morning ride. Turned round top of Suikerbossie, and then when heading back down to Camps Bay, had to swerve into the road to avoid what looks to be the same bunch of riders. Which I found not cool.

While waiting for the rest of the group, you really don't have to stand 3 abreast having a lekker chat. Be aware, leave at least enough space for a bike to squeeze in between the tea party and the yellow line.

  12. Not from what I am seeing on Windguru and windy.com.  According to current forecasts it looks like the wind is going to be absolutely blasting on the weekend.

Windguru doesn't really have any forecast spots close to Stellenbosch/Paarl/Wellington areas.

And if you look at windy.com you'll see that the whole area for the SCT is coloured blue/green, so not too bad. Sure... along the coast it's different...

  13. So after ending 2019 slightly heavier than when it started, I will try again. Third year at this challenge, so maybe three is a charm [emoji1]

I'm in exactly the same boat. needing surgery and being off the bike for the last third of the year also didn't help. but back to riding more regularly now, and silly season with all the treats is now over, back to cleaning up the diet and hopefully the scale will move in the right direction soon.

  14. 3 months of chaos...

September was a whole month of travel, including 2.5 weeks of holiday travel, and then 2 weeks work travel for a new job. October and November came, and brought along a new relationship, me crashing off my bike and tearing a ligament in my thumb which required surgery, moving to a new apartment and the associated packing and unpacking (with a splinted hand).

So now we're in December. I haven't had a proper ride since beginning of October while recovering from surgery. My weight is still up from where I was in August, but I'm happy to say that it seems to at least stabilised. Hopefully the chaos calms down somewhat. My surgeon has cleared me for road rides, and I am finding the time and energy to put the necessary effort to eat better so hopefully the downward weight trend will start soon.

I might not reach my goal weight this year, but given the circumstance, I can live with that  ^_^

You might want to contact your broker, or AF directly if you did not go through a broker and find out what you will need in the case of a total loss and if you can insure the bike for replacement of a new bike even if you bought it second hand.  And get the response in writing.

If you crash your bike and damage your wheel for example, you should not have a problem with your claim.

If you have a total loss, like your bike got stolen you, most of the time the insurance company wants the proof of purchase for the bike.

I am not sure that buying a bike second hand for half the price of a new one and insuring it for the replacement of the new one will make the insurance that happy.  One of the biggest reasons for second hand bike prices being so much lower than a new bike is because you void the warranty of the bike if you are not the first owner.  Well, on most brands you do.

The insurance must put you in the same position the you were in before the time of the incident.  That is why so many people argue that the insurance should not be repairing a carbon frame but replace the frame, because you will void your warranty on a repaired frame, and they cannot guaranty that the repair will not fail.

If you bought the bike second hand, you never had a warranty on the bike, and you will be put in a much better position if you insure your bike for the replacement of a new bike.

I’m not saying you cannot do this, I would just get in in writing from the insurance or your broker.

Before I insured my bikes, I got both of them valued in writing from reputable bike shops, and sent these through with my other documentation to get a quote. The valuations were to get me on a similar bike in case of theft or breakage, so it would be for a full carbon road bike frame with the same spec groupset and wheels.

Both valuations clearly state that it's for replacement value, and since I'm paying the appropriate premium for that value, insurance should pay out accordingly. But maybe it is worth to check with them...

  16. Also look at Alexander Forbes. Cyclesure was only willing to insure the value I paid for my second hand bikes, instead of replacement value. Got AF to quote on my household and car insurance and they came in lower than Santam so I moved my entire portfolio across. Friends claiming from AF also never had a problem.
