Do a few 30 to 40km trails in your area.  Gear and fitnes sorted.

Agree with Burger555 ..... DONT go out to hot !!  Been there, done that, cramped that .... :cursing:

For a first race .... start at the back and gradually make your way to the front.  If for no reason other than you are in control of your safety.  I have been on the front, with some youngster FLYING past me at the first corner.  They were going so fast they did not even make the corner and ended in the bushes on the side of the road.

One thing to consider.  "distance" is just one part of it.  CHECK the elevation, make sure that your prep rides include similar .... 972m of climbing in 30km at Fine Breede have caught many off guard .... :P

    Mostly ENJOY !!

Nice way to ease yourself into the racing circuit for the beginning of the year, you only need one race one word

    Attakwas, you’re welcome ????

Got dropped of near the venue. Had a nice get together with my clubbies . We all started in F. Got dropped by my pals almost immediately after the start. Few of us found a nice group all the way to Kayalami. There I had to make a pitstop . Then a  few kms further I stopped to greet my sister .

Found my pal on top of Jan Smuts. Rode past my old school where I started standard six fifty years ago. From there my mate pulled me home all the way in  3.21. My club mates had absolutely no remorse for dropping me, but made it up with boerie rolls and beers.

The stadium is awesome. From my side the event was well organised. As far as the route goes, I think the logistics and effort of closing off numerous crossings outweighs the scenery that may be gained.

    I had a nice day.

Mates and a cycling race LOL

    BWHAAAA “mates” school fees

ag crap man. it's not a navigation race. here's also in the rules.

if you're following the lead car and it goes "off course" do you assume it has got lost or the route has changed??

the only way to sort this out was immediately. they had a time gap. restore it after kyalami to what it was. but that would require people to know what was going on. not having marshals in the first place means they didn't have ducks in a row to start with.

this took place 43km into a 97km race, not even halfway.

    • The routes will be as supplied and participants must familiarise themselves with the route they are riding. The Organising Committee reserves the right to alter the routes in accordance with safety, traffic, construction or other constraints. No protest relating to deviation will be entertained.

Life is not fair, but that last sentence MAN that is clear as it gets

NO PROTEST RELATING TO DEVIATION WILL BE ENTERTAINED

would I be pisssed off 4SURE

but if I ever was at that end of the spear I WOULD CHECK RECHECK, hell I would do a drive around to recce the route

This is just next level crazy.

Things are spiraling out of control, human life has got no value in this messed up country.

In the world sadly, mate of mine came back from Portugal from what pre covid used to be a 2 times a year to visit his mom. The man was shattered he says we think we got crime over here, we know nothing about crime????????

he says terrible things are happening to the aged over there nothing on the news

he has lived here for nearly 30 years(he came here as a refugee) he says it killed him to leave him mom there

the poverty Is forcing people to do terrible things to survive

does this mean you have two days to finish...

Advice from someone who has dragged a rather lardy and old body over that mountain a handful of times,

Front tyre @1bar, will help to smooth the rocky first half

    start slow, keep that pace

if you see someone walking, start walking

reflect on the meaning of life, long for the days you mowed your lawn on Saturdays

halfway is just that but the second half is easier as your body has adjusted to the pain

the very last hill is not that steep and you end on a downhill....

Enjoy every minute of life after you have finished!!!

Bonus tip - Go and ride Tierkop in George a couple of times, that will give you a good idea what to expect.

    Thanks for that much appreciated

CSixx make exactly what you are looking for:

cSixx / DHE / Eseries / Carbon Mullet Wheelset – cSixx Components

Alternatively you could go for an absolutely bombproof alloy wheelset. DT Swiss EX511 Rims, Hope hubs, butted spokes and brass nipples. Those would last a lifetime. Nic from the wheelbuilder could help with a setup like that or a carbon option if you are dead set on that

Wheel Builder - handbuilt bicycle wheels for all cyclists

The only answer you need, Nic thewheelbuilder

Can I ask you guys, what is the actual appeal of the event?

(I've done a few, old longer route and newer rout - last one in 2016)

Looking back on it, I can honestly not figure out what the appeal is for the race. Other than 'long and adverse' and a suffer brag, the A to B format makes for unnecessary admin, the route is mostly district roads and jeep tracks and often sandy.

I am genuinely interested to know as the more I have thought about it, the less and less appealing the event is for me. What keeps everyone going back? Or is it just the £hellofthesouth tag?

For me I will be in the area, (sadly I have to extend my break another week)  thats sarcasm

Ive done 3 sani, 2 joberg2c,  2 3 towers I am planning a looong break going to Bloem to ride with Vetseun  for a few days

Then I am going to ride with Fabes (sadly) but more importantly I`m going to be riding with his LEGEND TOPPIE,iN PEE.EEE 4 days

then blouberg I have got a few rides planned 8 days

then Im in cape town for 10 days plan to do a good couple of rides

then Mossel bay with Escapee(god help me) and if I extend that for a week I should either be well rested or well lubricated for ATTA,,,, as I am in joberg it just makes sense taking advantage of the situation
