    Do you work for DSTV?

    Lol, no.

I just know that there are people out there who don't have the savvy for a vpn and also can't stand the glitchyness/ dodgyness of Tiz cycling and might not be aware that you don't have to get the full dstv package to watch the Tour.

I am on the road all the time and I appreciate the fact that you can set the dstv stream quality to suit your data availablity and still be able to get a pretty stable feed - even with a less than desirable mobile signal.

  2. For those more technically challenged cycling fans who don't understand vpns and such can subscribe to 1month dstv compact plus streaming service for R519 which includes channel 206 and gets you all the tdf action via the mobile app.

    2 things

    * Checking Supersport schedule I see it starts late today, is that correct ?

    * With Strava having TdF fever I started following a few riders. Their rest day rides would have me in the red trying to keep up.

My dstv schedule says coverage starts at 13:05 today.

  4. @jimmycool, I assume you roll a mountain bike.

Style Man is the mytho-poetic figure that prescribes 'fashion over safety.'

Black kit (in this case the stealth jersey) suggests sophistication.

It is also used as a means to cover up any undesirable or unwanted kilograms, thus deceiving rivals and maintaining a level of superiority.

    More seriaasly:

Naturally, black kit is durable and easy to clean with the mud and sleet that comes with winter riding. More and more brands are searching for the fabric technology that come with different colour tones and can stay bright and attractive over time. Castelli and Assos have stepped up in this regard.

Above all else, autumn is here' winter is coming. Stay bright so we can give ourselves a solid chance against those high tonnage moving cages, julle.

    Hey Dale,

Actually, I am 95% of the time on my road bike these days - the roads around Howick are a lekker place to ride.

I get what you are saying about the practicalities of dark kit etc and I don't have a problem with those who chose to wear it. My main gripe is the air of self perceived "pro-ism" that one sees which seems to coincide greatly with the lack of lighting and visibility devices.

Anyway, it's not everyone and I do also see those riders out there who do make every effort to make themselves visible so kudos to those who do.

  5. Hey guys, it really is getting light later and later now. Don't forget to "Light Up"!

Time again for my yearly mini rant.

What is it with "professional" looking cyclists? Almost without fail I see riders in dark kit without a single source of light. And it seems that the more "pro" a rider thinks he is, the less likely he is to have a red flashing light let alone a white front light.

IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU LOOK MORE COOL TO RIDE WITH NO LIGHTS!!!  :cursing:

In fact, it just makes you look stupid. And don't think it only affects you if you choose to ride without lights. Think about the impact it will have on the motorist who drives over you because you were trying your best to make yourself invisible.

OK, I have said my bit.

Please, please, please remember to light up.

Be safe out there and set a good example for others.

    :)

  6. Getting there with the concussion protocols

There’ll be a likely clash with the traditions and norms of the sport like ‘if it ain’t broken, get back on the bike...’

I've been wondering the possibility of the race doctor stopping and conducting a thorough Head injury assessment on a rider and then if it is determined that the rider is ok to continue then the doctor's car or maybe one of the motos can pace/ tow the rider back to the back of the convoy and then the rider must make their own way back through the cars. At least that way the rider can be properly checked out and not lose contact with the bunch.

  7. Pre-season centimeters

Very healthy before the onslaught of racing in Spring and the GTs

Hopefully he has gained a few extra watts as well. He was climbing really well last year but at the expense of that last extra bit of punch. I did think at times last year that he was looking a bit too scrawny!

  8. Some chatter on social media concerning a runner who was arrested in Durbs for running without a mask. My understanding was that anyone undertaking 'strenuous' exercise was exempt from wearing a mask.

Anyone know what is the current (legal) standing regarding masks and exercise? I note on my weekend rides in the Cradle, mask wearing cyclists are about as rare as an honest ANC politician...

I was also wondering about this.
  9. Would be keen to keep an eye on how DSTV approaches the TDF. They can always decide that it is a premium event and only broadcast it on one of the Premium channels.

Let's wait and see how they play it.

As far as I can remember it was on channel 206 variety 1 last year.
  10. Let us know which channel has the UAE tour on it please .

    GCN+ live coverage from 12.45pm today .

Sorry, I wasn't implying that the UAE tour was on dstv. Simply pointing out that if something is not covered on gcn and you really want to watch it you can get dstv compact plus for R529 instead of paying for the premium package. I think most people assume that the cycling is only part of the full premium package on dstv.
  11. R6348 for 12 months...

    Vs

    R359 for 12 months...

    Decisions, decisions.

    Edit, fixed the GCN+ pricing

Ok, perhaps I was misunderstood. I fully understand the difference in cost. What I was getting at is that you can subscribe to GCN+ for most of the cycling coverage and then in the months that say for example the tdf is on you can pay for that 1 month dstv compact plus instead of dstv premium to get the cycling coverage that is not on GCN.

  12. Just fyi. Dstv compact plus for R529 contains all of the variety channels so if all you want to watch is cycling then you don't have to pay for the full premium package.
