I have achieved something very similar to this (give or take where his feet actually are) coming back from driving in France for a couple of months and hopping into an automatic car here, in traffic, going down a hill!  Nice little morning adrenaline rush.

Automatic Car - Tuck your left foot RIGHT UNDER THE SEAT! Or you'll be in trouble :-(

Yep. After having driven the wife's little manual Yaris for a while, first time back in the auto approaching first stop I trapped a non-existent clutch and geared back straight through Reverse into Park. (didn't need the brake...)

I have an easier trick that I ask customers to do when they test drive an auto and have not driven one in a while or never driven one.

Keep your left leg on the foot rest and keep your left arm on the steering wheel at all times.

The moment that left arm moves down to the gear lever the left leg wants to hit the clutch.

I had the opposite.

Had been driving autos as company cars for ages, then popped down to George one day for a funeral, rented a Figo. Everything was perfectly fine from George Airport through to Moseel bay, then i took the offramp and was coming to a stop at the traffic light. Could not understand why the car was shuddering like that.

I've done a similar thing as well. Spent a long day in one of my auto trucks, came back dead tired. Got into my bakkie, drove off, and for most of the farm we drive in 2nd and keep it there. But then I got to the T-Junction, slowed down on the brake and stalled the bakkie.

I love working through the gears, but my fleet is slowly changing over to auto, and my bakkie will follow suit.

yeah look, I've got a manual car sitting in the garage. When I was looking to buy it I searched for a year to find a manual version. Some car/engine combos just need a manual box

My current bakkie is the last one I will buy in manual. It's a pain to drive a big manual car in traffic....

I know purists are all about manual gearboxes, but even the average auto gearboxes these days are pretty dam good. The only cars I would not buy in auto are these super small turbo charged engines that are all power and no torque... Autos just don't work on them.

as a petrol head there is something magical about driving enthusiastically in a manual, hitting the right gear to balance the car through a corner, bringing the power in smoothly etc.

But for everyday driving needs a modern auto box just does such a good job.

I hated an auto gearbox.  When I bought my Passat in 2011 I actually already ordered the manual but still wanted to testdrive one and the only one on the floor was auto (DSG).  Took that thing for spin and I very almost changed the order to a auto.  The fact that you have 7 gears to pick from and to switch to manual triptronic was awesome.

Yeah, with you on that. In the right car a manual is amazing... but like you said, for daily driving (especially in a slow heavy bakkie) auto is the way to go.

You automatic drivetrain car owners .... do you also make pre-made "TV Meals", wear croc's and ride e-bikes ...........

Correct, we live in the 21st century. ;-)
