@blokman Big up for collecting the rubbish....

I for one have picked up many gel sachets and tubes at Suikerbos (and many other places). Unfortunately as a mountain biker I can't fully blame the roadies as the thread suggests. I may have picked up a lot more roadie tubes but I have also picked up larger size MTB tubes. (and not the skinny 1.95 tubes the larger ones). Looks like my worst fears have happened that they will eventually close the reserve to cyclists because of this litter problem we seem to have.

I am quite disgusted in parts of the tread where people try to justify tossing packets because their poor hands or shirt may get a little goo on them from using gel packets. Still does not explain the tubes though. Either use a "gel bottle" if you are so worried, or finish the gel packet fully instead of 3/4 squeazing and then stuffing the remainder into your back pocket, or just carry a small sandwich bag to put the sachets into. How hard can it be... Soon we will loose all the nice MTB places we ride at.

As for the glass/rubbish/nappies (very common) on the side of the road (and not just Golden Gate area) it really worries me not only about the amount of rubbish thrown out of cars, it is the amount of booze bottle glass thrown out of the windows. And we wonder why we have so many accidents.

May be when Juliasssss M gets a couple of punctures from beer bottles he will take note and try do something usefull and stop it..... ok sorry I was dreaming a bit there :-)

Why don't we just organise them some flyers to give out at the gate raising this issue / giving a warning? I would be happy to sponsor/produce them, if that make a difference. Anyone with a hot line to management there?

Thanks to those responsible :cursing:

I caught a guy once throwing his punctured tube away, stopped and made him go into the bushes to fetch it, then followed him back to the car park to make sure he did not throw it away again.

Well done Boet ...... pity more of us don't have the balls to do this - it's so much easier to complain on the forum - kudus to you !!!!

Hi All, although I have never cycled there I am looking forward to use the facility, I just spoke to a Lucy from the reserve, according to her there is no such plans in the pipeline to close it for cycling or hiking but they are going to but more vigilant against people that litter, so if they catch you expect some action.

The concept of "complaining on a forum" is where an issue gets exposure, gains support and develops momentum. Better not to diss people for writing about it. I for one am happy that litter threads can get up to 11 pages, Google also likes it.

Thanks for that DM.. Lucy should know that they have the support of many users as is evident here.

Although I haven't ridden at SBR for ages I would hate to see it closed to cyclists.

Anyone keen to join me on a clean up ride over the easter weekend, let's do something proactive.

We can do a slow lap and pick up as much litter as we can, I will arrange a following vehicle to dump rubbish in.

Could also do a braai after at the car park if there is enough interest?

Hi guys.

I did not want to post anything until I had more info. I have phoned one of their officials and he asked me to E mail him with details of what we had heard about the closure. He said he knew nothing about this.

I have found out that he is in management and I will mail him with our concerns.Maybe see if we can get a bit more info and understanding of the problem.

Idea of flyers is a good one, would just like to talk to management first to find out what their concerns are so we know what to put in.

Meantime may I ask that if you see any papers lying around, stop and pick them up. Even if they are not ours.

You know the Scouts ,Voortrekker thing . May slow you down but you'll feel good.
