FEDERATION NEWS AND PRESS

Clarity on legal action taken by General Manager

June 30, 2017

Cycling South Africa has been informed of legal action taken by our General Manager against a member of the public relating to social media posts.

We hereby confirm that the staff member has acted in his personal capacity without the approval of Cycling South Africa and that Cycling South Africa is in no way connected to, or involved with this action.

The matter has been referred to the Board for consideration.

We would like to remind all that should there be any concerns relating to the organisation, to please direct these through our formal channels and we will gladly investigate.

Being able to fill the Treasurer position with an experienced Chartered Accountant and businessman in Robert Booth, our processes and controls will be further enhanced as well as our financial controls and corporate governance principles strengthened.

so the GM will carry the bill then I would assume .....

That is the reality and to add to it. Clubs normally need someone to sacrifice spare time to deal with the organisation and admin to get this on the go. And as you say time is more limited. So if I want to spend time on cycling I will rather be out riding my bike that spending it at a clubhouse or somewhere to try and organise an event of which most are ungreatful at the best of times.

This.

For the last five years I've been very involved in our local club, including organising races, 2 a year in the last 2 years. And have now had more than enough. There is very little club support. People want to ride their bikes, not run events, let alone organise cycling development. CSA does nothing in that regard. They focus on elite riders (top 10, if that) at local races. Recreational/sport riders must pay their 35 rondts just so we can get SASREA event clearance which requires CSA sanctioning. Without that, CSA will threaten you. The commissaires do try to make sure safety is a focus and do give advice but honestly, that's stuff we figured out for ourselves.

At first (four years back) people thought you had to be a club member to get your CSA membership (not racing license) so club membership numbers were good. When they figured out you don't, club membership dropped. There is very little incentive to join a club, from what I can see. So it becomes a vicious circle. Lots of people cycling, yes, but nobody to do the work of organising events or development. CSA for some weird reason thinks clubs will do that, but ask them how many people belong to a cycling club? They won't be able to say. That is not where their interest lies, clearly.

And Gen is right - we COULD be doing a helluva lot more!!

What gets to me is how many young very talented riders are having to beg, borrow and steal to get over here to get some European racing experience.

Why can't CSA help some of these riders?

And those who are and have been good enough to race in Europe, but now have visa issues and cannot get back to race there. All because they are on the SA passport.

Real stars who cannot get support.

Any ideas for these guys, please pm me.

and is that it.

I'm interested to know what happens once you ignore an Emma letter.

AND, did we get to compare the 2, was the MB one basically just cut and paste from the KE one?

It's Friday and everyone is still kicking the Sagan/Cavendish ball to death .. this ball (topic) is more deserving of some Friday kicks to see what the status quo is. What news has anyone on where matters lay ?
