Look like entries are not flying as fast as previous years. I just got a mail saying that they have extended entries till the 3rd of October.

Yip myself and a few others I know are not entering. Too risky to spend all that money and have another disaster happen.

I'm glad that entries did not sell a quickly as previous years. Hopefully measures will now be put in place to prevent a last minute shortening of the route due to protest.

Hopefully they still sell enough entries so they can keep there "marketing tagline" - World's Largest Timed Cycle Race

But yes it is like any big thing, never assume you will always be the flavour of the month, things changes and the costs around it is getting expensive for certain people.  Myself, I am excited to participate but do feel for the charities who will probably be hit the hardest as for lots of people that was the only option for certain people to get an entry, now they can access it directly, bypassing the charities.

Crystal Ball Morning:

1) I predict that the total entries will be only a couple of thousand below the average.

2) But on starting day, those actually going off will be very close to the normal numbers.

3) The number of finishers will be the same as usual.

Ps. I'll be happy if you remind me of this in March next year......right or wrong.........which is closer than you think! Stop talking, start training!

To fly down just for the Argus is a waste of munny. Those who live in and around Slaapstad enter and see what happens. We always would come down for two weeks and do the MTB the week before then spend the week between the two riding around the Peninsula with the Argus being almost an anticlimax. Its wonderful riding the Southern Peninsula sections during the week and stopping for coffee and such with minimal traffic.

I'm certainly not coughing up R 600 a second time for the dubious privilege of waking up at 5am, putting on one shoe and going back to bed again.

If they manage to pull this one off without detours I'll think about #21. But it won't be 2018.

That is sort of what i am thinking, that there are lots of people that will be sitting back and first see how this one goes, and "when" it goes VERY well, they will all be excited about the 2019 race.

Yep, I am one of those people. If I lived in the Cape I would not have been one of those people.

Nothing can stop them if they really determined and nobody knows if they will try again. Thats life. So if it worries you a lot don't risk entering

100% and I guess that might be the reason why the entries have not "flown off the shelf"...alot of people might be sceptic that this might happen again.

The only people that really lose out with this whole wind/riot debacle are the charities that get supported by the beneficiaries, like BEN bikes, early childhood development centre in Ocean view etc.

Wont effect the race itself in terms of longevity etc, just the charities will get less at the end of the day, sad really. The rioters are shooting themselves figuratively and literally in the foot.
