Saddle Bags on Road Bikes: cool or uncool?

Recommended Posts

I use a small one on my road bike.  Dont care what it looks like as road cycling is already crappy compared to MTB!

Tube, bomb, multitool, R100, tyre lever, snack bar and where I hang my flashing rear light.

Pro riders don't have saddle bags, cause they have so much stuff they need on the ride they have an entire frikken car following them around handing them stuff.  I don't have that luxury unfortunately so i will carry a saddle bag.  Besides my extra tubes and spares don't fit in my shirt pockets with all the beer packed in there.

if you ever gash your tire by 1mm or even up to 1cm (done that once hitting a pothole)

you use the plastic piece to place inside the tire over the gash. this ensures your replacement tube does not bulge out of the hole and burst.

i believe they now make stickers specifically designed to cover such holes

Good tip, an energy bar wrapper or a bank note also works in an emergency

Can we wrap this up please? Ftiday is coming and we have to discuss the 'pomp' thing. Maybe someone who carries a saddle bag should start a thread on what size bag to carry, what to carry, and excuses for carrying it.

Jaaa

Personaly..... I carry a bank note or 2 for this purpose.... they work well as a liner if you get a gash and then also if you have an unplanned financial event you can pay your way out...

LARGE bag, with zip to extend it to be even larger ....

29'' tube

20'' tube

tire levers

gas bombs

gas bomb adaptor

spare valve inserts (after helping somebody whose valve insert got clogged...)

valve insert tool

chain quick link x2 (for my bike and for Maritz' bike)

multi-tool

also a small pump on the bike

Then a full tool kit with lots more extra stuff in the car.

I DONT like riding without the saddle bag .... feel too exposed .....

And yet I dont take a cell phone along ....

There is an even better solution to avoid a saddlebag if you get a puncture.... Uber

but then you have to delete your ride, that means no kudos, what's the point of life after that.
