If you think about it it hasn't really been an African team for some time.

I agree, but public sentiment and often the press quote it as african, even though the last couple of years the team makeup has been more european than african.

Agreed, Doug has squeezed all the water he can from this “African Team” stone. So much for that 2020 vision they had.

Well despite his past Riis is a good DS..and I think they are beyond the point where they can wing it..they need someone with some sort of plan.

And obviously the condition was that he and his millionaire buddy have a stake in the team..

Absolutely, but let’s stop pretending this is “our” team.

I never did understand people supporting them just because they are SA registered..oh well each to their own I suppose

But they are def better off with Riis as DS.

The reality is that you aren't going to find a really good DS now that doesn't have some sort of doping past .. maybe in 10 years time.. but def not now..

It is what it is.

Buil. Nico Portal is a great DS without a dipping past. There are a lot of hang overs from the bad days but also a lot that aren’t tarred by that brush. People scoffed at sky when they made sure none of the staff and DS had doping pasts (bye bye Yates) but seems you can have a good coaching Team without a dirty past and not shrug shoulders saying ‘that’s just the way it is.

And despite their clean past they still flew in a jiffy bag full of dope for Wiggins.

Clean in the past, but dirty now?

Was that proved or just pitch fork speculation? As far as I can remember there has been no charge laid by WADA or the UCI in this respect but don't let that spoil a good myth.
